Bolex D16: RAW, 16/Super 16 sensor size, costs less than MkIII

Who said it was a 200-Mbps bus? The site says each frame is 2-3 MB, and I believe someone saw a figure of 3.5 MB. At up 32 fps, that's upwards of 112 MBps (896 Mbps).

vlad is the Fox Mulder of dvxuser. Please don't ever change. :)

Haha! I was thinking the exact same thing...

what i found about Stylianos Derventzis it looks like he has patents in optics and signal processing .... he is probably head man and that two are front .... cool looking hipsters to make all this sexy ...
because i always got a feeling that they don't know anything about camera tech ...
this gives some merit to a project

At times, I had the exact same feeling. The name "Stelio" sounds awfully similar to Stylianos. Nickname? Possibly the same guy from the new video update they posted?

I'm not going to bother reading this whole thread, nor debate the technical merits. The only thing this shows is there's a market for a camera like this , at this pricepoint. If people are willing to give these guys a hundred thousand on a kickstarter , then Nikon should be paying attention, since they're one of the few big players who don't have a market to protect. There's a saying about traveling in Mexico....never take what you can't afford to loose. It seems appropriate for donating to kickstarters as well !

Re: Nikon: true - and Pentax is exactly in the same position - they're both already using the 16mpix APS-C Sony sensor that can do 1080p60 on the nex-5N, they know how it works, how to control it, how to read its data, etc - just run a fast 4:1 binning and store the 2.5K, 15-bit RAW stream on an SSD drive, using standard uncompressed Adobe Cinema DNG - at 2.35:1 and 24fps, it comes out at roughly 5MB per frame, just over 20min on a 160GB SSD drive

but there is one problem
that configuration will beat arri alexa to the ground ...
nobody going to sell something like that....
and if they do they going to put it in bigger body add pl mount ...
do nice presentation with scorsese and charge for about 20000$

BTW that sensor has 14 stops of DR, and delivers clean-ish ISO 3200 video, and if Pentax can put it on the $750 K-01, it can't be paying Sony much more than what the D-Bolex guys are paying Kodak for the "small" CCD sensor that they're using... there's the extra "binning" step to take care of, though

what we will get with that beast is more than 15 stops and clean iso same as sony f3...
but what then ....
they need to sell new model every 2 , 3 year ...

i try to persuade guy from optimacine ...
he did all the hard work ...
but he doesn't get potential of that project and he speaks little english
he trys to make camera from scratch ...

I already have one business partner out of these boards (we're designing rigs), wouldn't mind thinking a bit about this... if it can be done with off-the-shelf parts

i don't think its that easy ...
there are some custom things....
R&d will cost...

I think this is pretty cool. Maybe it will inspire some other people to design their own camera. I have little doubt some of the folks on here could come up with something even more impressive and more affordable.

just look what they done with c300...
they use perfect new sensor with huge pixels ...
do intelligent 444 pixel binning ...
and then use 4 years old DIGIC DV III from Canon Vixia HF20 ...
so slow that it cant do 1080 60p ...
try to cram g-log in 8 bits ...
good enough ...
charge 16000$ ...
and we expect raw video from big companies ...
yeah right ...
we ony can imagine what would raw images look like...

I'd love to see the day when you can build a camera like a PC. Buy your own sensor in the size you prefer, mount that works with your lenses, body that has the ergonomics you like etc. You could build a camera for specific projects or your filmmaking style.

As long as it wasn't prohibitively expensive that would be the dream...

Hmmm....

we have a ton of knowledge on this board here. When we would put all our brains and some money together, combined with some tried and trusty off-the-shelf parts and maybe some custom parts, I bet we could come up with something great. Just think how those communities, that developed this quad copters worked out.

The word "modular camera" could get a whole new meaning.

I mean, think of Dan Hudgins, Vialy, (a pity we lost Otis with his sensor calibration knowledge), some guys of our sound department, Richard Andrewski with his Asia manufacturing know-how, that Russian CNC wizard(forgot his name) andwhatnot combined.

just my ct2

And we could name it after this site! Call it the DVX or something. No, in honor of so many people joining together, the DVX 100!

Oh . . . wait.

I think we will start to see something like this soon.
