Bolex D16: RAW, 16/Super 16 sensor size, costs less than MkIII

Notice the $2,500 pledge does not come with gratitude ;)

I'm so tempted to jump in...

Does anyone know if C-mount can be adapted to PL? My roommate is looking to get a s16mm zoom for fun for our epic at 2k, and I figured kill two birds with one stone and get a s16mm c-mount. They say PL will be offered, but from past experience, the PL mount will be another $800.

I see some issues with C-mount to PL considering PL is 52mm in flange depth and C-mount is a hair off my chest in comparison.

This looks like distilled essence of camera. Perfection. As someone said before, looks like it has soul.

Don't over analyze this guys, don't miss the forest for the trees. This camera will make shooting fun again.

^ That is my feeling. I want this as a simple/fun camera to take on the go. Get some amazing footage on my travels and etc.

I'm not looking for this to replace any of the cameras I use now. It just looks like fun.

I'm intrigued, that is for sure.

Nothing like shooting 12 bit 444 RAW on the go. It's your move big 3!!!

It's ballpark about 1/2 to 1/3 the size of the GH2, or 1/3 to 1/4 the size of APS-C.

Oh, and all you guys who pledged? Pay up, because I just put them over the top.

Barry Green + DBolex= Dang am I glad I preordered!!!! = backordered for eternity!!!!! :)

This is going to be a fun ride Barry....I bet you're as glad as I am that you passed on scarlet, yes?

anyone buying this cam and wanting some beautiful C-Mount glass Im letting a 3 set go for cheap... seriously like new glass, Elitar, Bell & Howell, and Angeneiux

I can't stress how excited I am about this camera - it truly is a saviour for independent filmmakers on ultra-tight budgets.

However, I was just wondering, does everyone like the form factor? It sure looks like a fun camera to handle, that's for sure! But will we lose the "element of surprise"? I feel as though shooting in public places with this camera is going to be hell because it's form-factor is going to attract so much attention - regardless, I'm sure I will order one - just need to setup a US P.O. Box!

:0 Ikonoskop just got blindsided
Maybe, but the Digital Bolex hasn't been released yet. Anyone who followed Red's 3K Scarlet will probably temper his/her enthusiasm with caution. I really want them to succeed, even more so if they add HDMI. ; ) It's just that so much can go wrong, although using off-the-shelf components and very little custom tech does help.

By the way, did anyone notice the size and weight? It's body-only weight is the same as Scarlet's, 5 pounds. Ironically, this low-priced camera supports data rates higher than Scarlet's. Scarlet maxes out at 50 MBps, whereas the Digital Bolex records 2K at up to 32 fps, at 2-3 MB per frame, which adds up to somewhere between 64 and 96 MBps.

This is awesome!! I am more excited about this cam than any other I have seen in a long while. It's not so much the cam, but the guys who put this together, and the fact they crowd funded it. Their first attempt destroys others that have been making cams for decades. My hat goes off, what else can I say. I love the underdog, and always will.

It is much easier to move data at high speeds if all one is doing is shuffling it from one point to another without compression or other modifications. A single uncompressed 4k Scarlet frame is around 17.7 megabytes vs about 3.5 megabytes for 2k 12 bit 16:9 uncompressed.

I'm excited about the possibilities this camera offers, but damn if they need to re-grade that "Storybook" promo.

I totally agree! But I judging from their sample short film and the 'storybook' film, I'm thinking this camera has yet to be put through its paces (my kind way of saying the image makers have room for improvement)

Besides the small chance that shooting guerrilla style night exteriors with a pistol grip camera in LA could get you shot by LAPD, I love the form factor!

Here is some 8mm cameras I own. Tell me what they have in common...

Kind of wish there were HDMI out so that cheap LCD-based EVFs could be mounted.

Didn't even see that. So no Zacuto EVF then? Bummer.

What's going to be the best way to monitor?

Video out 640 x 480 B&W via ⅛” video jack

B&W = black and white?

They all look like blow dryers/megaphones/props from a 1970's Buck Rogers porn parody?
