I know most people here are pretty well sold on the 503, but how would you say that it compares to the 501? Any opinions on actual performance differences? I know the 503 is more of a true fluid, but from reading I've done it seems like the performance is nearly identical. Any opinions?
 
I have the 501 and been using it for abouit a year, before that I had the 3043 (I think, or was it 3066 ...). I have loved the 501 and haven't felt like I need anything more. I've used it a lot for event videography - great head, smooth, well built, reliable. Can't comment on the 503, but I'm thinking about getting two more 501's to replace the other tripod heads which are the model listed above. Anyway no complaints with the 501.
