Bogen / Manfrotto 351MVB2

I dont own a manfrotto at the moment but I heard members hear specifically say something like "get the 503 and never look back" or "get the 503 and spend 5 minutes crying over spending the money instead of crying over wishing you did whenever you use it".

Anyway I did use a 501 about two weeks ago, and changed it as soon as someone showed up with a different setup because basically it wasnt doing the job (the guy did show up with a sachtler so erm maybe I just wanted to use it :P But seriously you will get that kind of advice I think from actual Manfrotto users... wait til horse chimes in here I know he has a 503.. least I am pretty sure, and did have a 501 at one point?

I used a 501 once for a freelance shoot a few years ago. The experience was enough for me to get the 503 without a second thought when it came time for me to buy my DVX package. The 501 wants to nose dive all the time. It makes it really hard to tilt smoothly. I was shooting a speaker who liked to move around a lot and it was nearly impossible to keep up with him using the 501.

Ok, this is what I has hoping to hear. It's one thing to read the marketing hype and another to hear from actual users.

I'm setting my sights on a 503.

Thanks!
Marty

Has anyone used the Manfrotto 351MVB2 w/501 fluid head, with the DVX100B?
Well that is my setup, and I am quite happy with it.
The 501 wants to nose dive all the time. It makes it really hard to tilt smoothly.
Not that i wanna start an argument, but 501 handles DVX100 pretty well. It does tilt forward with front-heavy cams,(such as XL2) but then again if you lock it properly it wont. Also, i think it tilts up and down perfectly...
I believe 503 is built for heavier camcorder class...

I am looking at the 503 as well. Does it hold a M2 setup nicely? Btw, I am using an HVX, I posted here because it was so specific to my situation.

Also the specs given by B and H say that the 501 and 503 are both for 13 lbs. The diffrence between them include a counter balance spring, more adjustable drag options, among other things.
