Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

i got the adapter from Bogen directly.. I think my guy may be able to get them though.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

The Matte Box as ordered from B&H does not come with any adapter of any size, but they do have some screw-in adapters available at extra cost. It's probably a good idea to give them a call and ask. Also, if B&H needs to drop-ship the adapter from Bogen, you might want to check with the Filter Connection at 2filter.com. They usually have them in stock and can ship overnight.

Hope this helps.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Maybe it's me but I can't find any reference to either 85mm or 86mm clamp-on adaptors on the Bogen site or the Formatt site. Neither EVS nor B&H knows about them either. They all show 75.5, 80.5 and 93mm clamp-on adaptors. Can anybody offer any insight on this? Thanks.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

E-mail Formatt. It will probably take a few days, but that's how I got my questions answered.

Hope this helps.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

What if you are running the mattebox with no fliters. Is the light going to be a problme entering through the bottom?

Jarred- Have you suggested to Formatt that they put a flap on the bottom as well?

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

well my results seem very different, i bought the mattebox with a few filters from b&h and it came with both the 72mm and the 8#mm adaptors, the 8# fit the dvx just fine.

the only issue i can possibly see with my setup is that the filters load from the bottom (not a big deal, i just make sure the screw that holds the filter in is snug) and on the filter holder that is rotatable it can't be rotated 360 degrees.

but other than that i have been thrilled with mine.

one word of warning, the screws that hold the two main parts of the matte box together came very loose and fell out in a matter of hours the other day.

i'm talking about the 8 silver screws, so if you have one take a minute to tighten the screws every once in a while.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Jarred, could you tell us please, where things stand with the adapters and vignetting and the testing and so on?

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

the vignetting problem has been solved as i posted above.. there is no problem and no loading from the bottom if you use those adapters.

As for the flap on the bottom.. If your not using filters you dont really need to worry because the angle light would need to hit the lens is almost impossilble.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

And just to make sure... you CANNOT use the 16:9 panny lens, correct?

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Okay, did everyone forget about this thing? havn't herad much about it in a while.

I don't mean to sound like a ***** but this thing Box has turned me into an excited little girl. And we all know how contrary the female can be...

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

I've given up on this thing. I'm saving up for the Chrosziel now.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Did anyone have success mounting this thing properly, without vignetting?
If so, could you please provide the exact ring/adapter combination and where to buy them.
Thanks

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Jarred did. He has the combination written on a previous post in this topic...

Sorry if I riled you, taubkin.

Lest you think me lazy, I can assure you I did go through the 100-odd posts on this subject, and the information appeared rather fractured and incomplete.

Perhaps I missed something.

If you could point me to the pertinent posts that deal with the specific ring/adapter size, the manufacturer, a source to purchase and the price, I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Sure, on top of page 13 on this post.

So this is the combination.. you need a 72mm-82 or 83mm stepup ring, then the formatt 86mm clamp down adapter. This gives no vignetting and enough room for the filters.

I hope this helps?
