bogen 516 vs bogen 519

i was wondering what the practical difference is between these 2 heads that makes them $350 apart despite both being fluid heads with the same weight load

i found a thread on another forum that was about the bogen 503 vs 516 vs 519, but all that ensued was a big discussion about the 503 vs the 516, and it never answered the 516 vs 519 question...

519 has variable counterbalance and two interchangeable springs, one for loads up to 10 lbs, the other for 11-22 lbs. 516 has one spring, not removeable. So if you have a lighter payload, the tripod operates the same as the when you max out the payload.

It also has variable stepped drag from 0-7 (for repeatable drag) on the pan and tilt, whereas the 516 has a 0 to max dial with no steps and no markings.

This may or may not be important to you.

thanks for the info

can the 516 not adjust its tension etc (with its fixed spring), well enough to work nicely with a bare hvx / ex1 / xha1 though?

I have a 519 and one big difference between the 519 and the 516 is the size of the head and the quick release plate.
The head and the plate of 519 are smaller than that of the 516.
the 519 is basically a beefed up 503 they both use the same quick release plate but the 519 has more drag and fluid settings.
The 516 is over all bigger and designed for larger cameras than the 519.
For the small heads the 501 or the 503 would be the base and the 519 is the top of line.
In the Larger head series the 516 is the base and the 526 is the top.
As far as options are concerned the 526 would be the 519 equivalent and the 516 would be the 503.
Sorry if this sounds like mad ramblings....

If I was to purchase it again I would rather have the 526.
