Body scan? What is that?

It's usually some kind of 3d laser mechanism that will scan an actor and produce a matching 3d mesh for computer animation. It still takes some tweaking by an artist before you get something that's ready to use, as it doesn't scan into concave places entirely, etc.

The most popular place with Hollywood studios seems to be Gentle Giant. I vaguely remember they had some huge setup at one of the showbiz expos when I went several years ago.

You're right about it probably not being a good candidate for a DIY project, although that's how a lot of innovation like theirs got started in the first place.
Heck of a large commitment, though.

Greetings all, I am new to this thing--(this site-).. I just saved some $$$ to upgrade my AG-PSV0300 and read review after review of DVX 100 B ---I would like to hear from folks who actually use it on a reg basis--- what do you like about it & what do you use it for? My assignments include --Low-light concerts, Lectures/presentations, sk8 B compts, summer fest.. then the final products goes to DVD format and or youtube.
