Body mount camera setup

Yeah like a snorricam. But way smaller. Only needs to support a little consumer HD camera.

Why?

My boogers are up to something while I sleep. I just know it!!

Because skiing/biking footage with a few intercut shots from one these things would look cool :)

So lightweight and less intrusive than a full on snorricam or doggicam brand body mount. I've got a wide angle lens for this little consumer cam that should allow me to stay pretty close the subject. About a foot from the face before focus gets weird.

I've seen them used in situations that in no way shape or form could have been executed with a full on snorricam/full sized camera setup.

Just curious what people have seen and/or built.

EDIT:

I'm thinking something like this, mounted to a moto roost guard.

But I'm more than willing to bet someone's got some other good/better ideas.

most of the times you see this done they are not holding a camcorder. they are holding a small camera, that is connected to a recorder on their belt.

probably one of these lipstick sized cameras.

although these tiny cameras work I don't know if youd get decent quality.

"holding" is not an option

Hands will be on handlebars or ski poles :D

I've got a panasonic HDC-SD9. It's not a lipstick cam but it's not far off as far as general obtrusiveness. But that's about as low quality as I'm willing to go intercutting footage with an HPX170.

I think he meant the rig holding, not hand holding.

As far as something like that, it's just a matter of scaling down the beefiness of some of the snorricam rigs. You could probably just have one arm coming out from a vest to hold the camera with a couple of small arms to support it.

As far as building it, it just depends on what you have access to. Aluminum is pretty easy to cut and drill and it pretty lightweight. If weight is a major factor you could go with carbon fiber tube or rod. Would be super light, but but a substantial jump in price.

Another type of rig is a "Scorpioncam", which is exactly the same as "snorricam", but it comes up from the back over the head. Which you would end up with the support rig in the shot, with the "Scorpioncam".

Ah. My bad if that's what you meant Arson. But yeah, whatever I end up with, if it can hold a lipstick cam, it should hold the camera I plan on using. I'm not buying another camera just for this.

PVC and/or aluminum are what I'm thinking because both should be pretty rigid. PVC if possible because I can probably get it lighter. But I can get aluminum square bar stock and/or angle 'iron' pretty easily.

And yeah I thought about one those over the head setups. I really don't want the rig in the shot though.
