BNI-Pyramid Scam or for real?

I got an invitation in the mail to a local event hosted by BNI, a self-professed global networking organization. The information they included tells me it's a great way to establish contacts and build leads. I'm invited to a 'power breakfast' that I have to pay for but they neglect to mention the annual dues which, according to my own research, seem to be about $500 a year. What I've found online seems to be mediocre at best as far as success with them. Anyone here have any dealings? I'm leaning toward the NO button on this one.

The NO button should be pushed now. Most network groups of any caliber are free or require minimum yearly dues ($20-$30).

Network groups do from time to time have special events where there may be a cover. All very reasonable.

This sounds like pyramid to me. As they say if walks like duck it probably is.
