BMW Burns Logo onto Cinema-Goers’ Eyes

Neat, but also kind of scary.

The things that advertising will probably be doing in the future with new technologies might actually be similar to the creepy advertising techniques in Minority Report.

I wonder if eventually they will have nanobots or even insect-like drones that fly into our brains while we sleep and program the mind to subconsciously desire certain products and services.

Hey I recommend you to keep an eye outside and check for strange vans, also go out the country as soon as you can.....preferably....just before they get you... you can't go around freely disclosing new marketing techniques....

But I will make millions if I can patent and prototype some sort of "ad-bugs" that can be effective yet cheaply manufactured.

Although, then again... what if they are already doing this and we don't know it?

I thought that's how subliminal advertising already works... Remember Fight Club? The light idea is cool though, a little different take on it. If you decide not to close your eyes, then what?

People will buy anything if you convince them that other cool people use it, or it gets sex... Doesn't matter if the product sucks, or kills you... or both (in that case all the company has to do is say "use responsibly" and let nature take it's course anyway).

There's no reason to market in these unusual ways... show a goofy dude getting the hot chick with the product. (end of advertising lesson)

But in this case the adversting technique is the advertising technique. Got it?

It's made to say: Hey, we're so intelligent and innovative that our advertising techniques are inventive!

Regarding psychological techniques, most are very cheap and outright mean. Bank campaigns are the worst!

There's a national bank here that has an ad that has this slogan: "It's not about having, it's about being..."

And it shows a beautiful woman playing on the backyard of a house with her child.

But we gather these two information: Here in Brazil less and less people buy houses, too expensive, the house is clearly north american in style. So, therefore, to BE what the bank is proposing, you need to HAVE the things very few people actually have. And the bank puts itself in the position of the provider, which is sheer delusion.

Advertising is evil! :D

Thanks for clearing that up. Other companies should try ads that seem intelligent and innovative to make people think the company/product behind the ad is intriguing.

:)

I actually like the BMW concept, BTW... but I agree that in the western world... too many sue-happy folks.

All I saw was "ads" and "movie theater" and I already hate it.

But seriously...

I ****ing hate this ad. Having the afterimage of a product in my eyes makes me want to burn the actual BMW logo into these assholes' chests with a hot brand.

Remember that the actual commercial here isn't the one they showed in the theater.

The actual commercial is the clip on YouTube showing the new neat concept of the flash ad (establishing BMW as a company that thinks ahead of the curve), then make us actually watch the entire short advertisement spot (ending with the BMW logo imprint), then people's positive reaction to the brand name and the ad spot.
People talk about this to their friends, and post it on message boards like this one.
Notice how the YouTube clip begins and ends with ad text.

Go back and look at how many times BMW is mentioned and how many times the logo appears in the clip.

If you think this entire article and clip is anything else than a car advertisment, welcome to viral marketing.
That's how you get into people's heads.

I wish I was smart enough to figure out a marketing campaign like that for Marianne.

yep, that's the way.
shoot an commercial with some silly, tricky, stunt, spectacular effect , make a "making of" of it.
start publishing the making of first on you tube and make the buzz.
so when people watch the "not so special" ad, they say "Hey you know how they shoot that ? i have seen it on youtube, it's crazy !"
and start to explain you how the brand is hi-tech/innovative to have done that.
so these guys feel they are connected/up to date with the latest buzz and technology while you are just a looser.
probably their next puchase is the product advertised....

ultimately, the commercial is not the clip on youtube, it is you buzzing your friends.

very true. I recently saw an ad on phermones Cologne, and it said it helps get the ladies. They sell a ton of this crap. If you cant get the ladies with, looks, humor, or intelligence. Well, you might as well hang it up.lol OOPS, forgot a few shots of vodka.

Same here, and probably how Aldo Raine would feel about it too.
