The ergos are weird, it would be a PITA to try to rig onto my gimbal.
it's astoundingly competent for almost no money.
Many people don't notice IR pollution (I know I didn't years ago) until you show them (like their blacks side by side).
I like Firecrests.
The video was not about IR that people hardly notice, it was grotesque and horribly prominent in a way that no one could miss. I want to see someone reproduce that, not innuendo.
The P4K/6K needs an articulating screen but users need the USB-C on the outside to plug in external SSD drives.
I received my Canon EFS 17-55 IS USM F2.8 lens yesterday as pictured earlier in the thread. What a great fit for the P6K! You can read the lens reviews online, they are all pretty excellent but in addition, the auto focus and especially the OIS are exceptional for my P6K, 3 stops and you can notice the smoothness, not jumpy, doesn't jerk around. I get nicely hand holdable ergos and no micro-jitters in the footage. The lens is not new, optically it has sharp, L quality ED glass elements with good color, but with a sturdy plastic barrel and no sealing. The lens barrel does extend but does not wobble from side to side at all. Heft, feel and control is really nice, with smooth fully manual zoom and focus. Auto focus motor is not silent but is fast and quiet. The F2.8 aperture is constant throughout the zoom range. I haven't seen any vignetting in 16x9, 6K footage fully resolved from wide to tele, corner to corner, one of the sharpest Canon lenses around at any price, makes P6K shine. The only flaw on P6K is it is not parfocal, probably because of the flange mounting difference between the EF full frame mount and APS-C EFS mount. It's not wildly out of focus when you zoom but you should not expect continuous zoom performance.
I've had my copy for a couple of years now, it's a nice lens.
1. Be ready for internal dust, I already have two nice chunks inside on top of the main element. If you're gutsy, you can YouTube how to disassemble the lens and clean it yourself or you gotta send it back to Canon or an authorzied repair center. It is the least dustproof zoom I own and I own several.
2. How is your manual focus ring? Mine sucks, it's crunchy and rough, I have a feeling also because of this lens' poor to non-existent dust sealing. I have taken mine to the Sahara Desert and have been in some mild sand storms and some shooting at the beach too, so its not surprising.
3. Try shooting handheld with AF and a mic on your camera. Mine has such noisy focusing, it makes this a challenge. Not sure if it's just my copy or if all of the EF S 17-55s are this noisy on focusing?
Optically, it's a very good lens. Build quality? I would have preferred to have paid $200.00 more for real dust sealing and the same build quality as my EF 24-105mm f/4.0 IS II. The 17-55 is just not a very well built lens overall. I'd pay double for it as an L lens with the latest STM/USM and IS II. I'd love it as a
little brother to my EF 70-200 f/2.8 IS II. Built to the same standards, I'd pony up $1,500.00 for it no problem.
