BMC for live events

Still considering the new BMC for filming commercials, short films, features, etc.
*But this all may change when it comes out in July

Since the new camera isnt out yet, Im wondering about the older BMCC. How would that be for live event shoots?
-Good or bad?

Its not something Id be doing a lot or all the time, but something on the side to keep me busy

Really, eh?
Why so?

I've seen people use Red for live events.
and that seems to be a worse of a camera as its only raw.

Depends on, what you consider a live event. It can be anything from wedding to rock concert.
I shoot with the BMCs since last August and I would say, if you know what you are doing, you can use it.
But it would not be my first choice unless image quality and resolution is absolute critical.

Like, "oh, there is a festival taking place downtown"
Or "record a presentation or a speech"
"Interview people on the streets" sort of deal - Kinda a bad example

Things like that not weddings as I don't do those.

From that list of examples, the only thing I wouldn't do is presentations or speeches but if you're getting B-Roll for a festival then I don't see why the BMCC would be that much of a difference from a DSLR. Obviously, you need to know what you're getting into with a RAW workflow(storage space, turnaround time, and knowledge of grading) but if you're shooting ProRes then I don't see it being a problem.

There's already been a couple of weddings done with a BMCC and I rank weddings at the top for difficulty when it comes to live events. But, I'll add that the BMCC isn't a low light camera and shines best when it's fed light.

there isnt a RAW camera that I know of is good at low light. I bet 5d3 is the best low light RAW camera for now (with magic lantern lol )

I mean, events is somewhere you need a camera like a C100, 6hours for 64gb of space. none stop recording.

or you can use BMCC, 1 64 gb for 30mins ? (I think ). 6 hours means approx 800gb of disk space. how you going to edit that with instant preview ? hahahahaha

look at my event setup, C100 + 28-300. with shotgun on CH1 , and G3 on CH2 (connected to DJ's mixer, G3 transmits wirelessly to my CH2). Z90 on cam light.

man I can shoot this for whole day. and editor is gonna cry lol.

Hugo van Dijke over at the BMCuser forum just shot a wedding, maybe here are some answers for you:

... I shot everything ProRes. It's perfect. I was present for about 2,5 hours and shot about 70GB material. The detail compared to my 5DM2 is just amazing. ProRes held up great when I graded it. ... Handheld with IS was do-able. It surprised me, actually. Didn't expect it to be that good, but it was. Form factor was a small problem. My hands started slipping after a while. And: the camera is HEAVY.
The 24-105 F4 is absolutely the wrong lens. Perfect outside, but inside I really missed some more light sensibility. I'm planning on buying the 17-55 2.8 IS. Also gives me some more room on the wider end.....
