Blurry blinds

I was using an Arri 600 (fresnel), lighting thru a set of blinds to throw slashes of light on a wall this weekend and the light on the wall was blurry no matter how I focused the Arri's.

Should I have used an open face instead?

The closer the object (blinds, barn doors, cookies, anything) is to the light source, the blurrier the demarcation between light and shadow will be.

I don't think there's a whole lot you can do about it, other than put the object further out.
