based on help with " Blu-ray Disc " index, we can see that bluray format can burn in dvd media/dvd blank :" You can also burn high-definition video to a DVD for playback in a Blu-ray Disc player using the BDMV format:A 4.7 GB single-layer DVD recordable disc can store approximately 1 hour, 17 minutes of 8 Mbps AVC or MPEG-2 video, 40 minutes of 15 Mbps AVC video, or 26 minutes of 25 Mbps MPEG-2 video. An 8.5 GB dual-layer DVD recordable disc can store approximately 2 hours, 20 minutes of 8 Mbps AVC or MPEG-2 video, 1 hour, 10 minutes of 15 Mbps AVC video, or 46 minutes of 25 Mbps MPEG-2 video. "if anyone ever tried it?thanks

Well, sort of. I burned Blu-ray output to a R/W DVD disk from DVD Architect but I expect the same results would happen burning directly from Vegas. What happened was the disk got created fine but I could not play the disk as a true Blu-ray disk on my PS3 (which has a built-in Blu-ray drive.) The disk came up as a data disk, which means I could see all the files on the disk, but I could only play the video files by individually selecting them.

There has been a lot of discussion about this on various boards. The bottom line seems to be that whether or not you can use DVD media as a Blu-ray video disk depends both on the brand of Blu-ray player you have and the level of the firmware in the drive itself. Several people reported being able to play DVD media as Blu-ray ok, but not being able to after they updated their drive's firmware.

Thing #2 is that the specs for Blu-ray appear not to be completely firm, even though people think they are. I've seen quite a few commercial Blu-ray movie disks with lead-in messages saying that "all the functions of this disk might not work unless you have updated the firmware for your Blu-ray player." Another rumor I came across was that the Blu-ray encription has now been cracked and so new firmwares are updating the decryption code in their respective players. I have no idea if this is true or not.

Patch the blu-ray image created by Vegas and set the AVCHD flag in the index.bdmv file so the DVD with high definition content will play on AVCHD compatible blu-ray players. Note that many of the 70$ blu-ray players sold in the US by large discount stores are not AVCHD compatible. These high standards force use of 25GB BR-R blanks for 4 minute videos.
