blur question

I know this is a subjective kinda thing but...,I would like to get some blur while shooting race cars this weekend. What would be a good starting point for my shutter speed. I will be using a 30p scene file and the camera will be locked down on the tripod.

Most all of the footage will be regular motion but I'd like to give some shots the speed effect.

It depends on several factors, including focal length, I believe. ASC Manual has a formula for calculating motion blur, let me dive in to the manual and I'll get back to you asap.

A blur Question. I want the film look for my ski & snowboard video that I plan to shoot in 24p Advanced, will there be to muh motion blur on a fast moving target for the average viewer to bare?
