BluLine fresnels???

No more talk on these babies? I'm really interested in buying the 1600 watt kit from Image West. Anyone have good/bad experience ordering from Image West through their website?

Just bought two 650s and one 1k. My next few weeks are pretty jam packed, but as soon as I have a chance to play with these I'll give some feedback.

The way i feel you need to be privileged to get them. I enquired to place an order via email and its 2 weeks now.....last time i emailed asking the price for shipping to canada and it took 3 weeks....

I sent an e-mail asking about custom packages about 6 weeks ago and never got a response. I've moved over to the Cool Lights camp.

My wife looks far better in one than me. Actually, we are trying to find a reasonably priced studio here locally to rent to do a video shoot with all the new products for my VLOG. Video speaks far better for this sort of thing than pictures or just words alone. We won't wear any fancy costumes though because most of these items don't need external "dressing up" to make them look prettier. They're all quite exciting by themselves.

We're still shooting for that August / September timeframe. Sometimes patience is rewarded. We have our issues to work out just like everyone does to have a smooth offering but we try to do all that behind the scenes and in advance so its much smoother for our customers. That's why I'll take as much time now to get it all right as I have to. If one supplier is flakey, I move onto the next. China isn't always easy, believe me.

At least you know someone is home when you ask us a question. I'm not sure the lights are on at the other place very often. Maybe the rental was too much on the costumes and they're about to throw in the towel.

So Richard, are you referring to the HMI guts or plain ol' BLue Lines?
If you are talking about the HMIs then I am surprised at how fast you are might be able to get them out!

(and my Alzo 800 needs to go on Ebay ASAP!!!)

Hey Richard, i was just asking for information, not to add pressure. I spend a lot of time in asia myself so i get the picture. I was just thinking your product line would probably have a very good market in indonesia.

I don't know the market well there so don't know what they have already but we have a lot of inquiries from other parts of this area for sure.

Hey Cool Lights dude, I'm stuck between wanting the 1k and the 650. Is there any way the 1k could safely house a 650 watt bulb? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I gotta ask.

Its not a dumb question and actually a pretty smart one. Here's the issue you face though. It's no problem to "lamp down" as its called from a 1000 to a 650 from an electrical standpoint. The rating on the fresnel is always based on the wiring and the load it can handle so we know a 1000w can handle anything up to a 1000w bulb with no problem. Where it starts to get more sticky is in the area of socket type. The typical 650w bulb has a G6.35 base and thats what the 650w unit uses actually. The 1000w unit however uses a G22 base socket which is worlds apart from the G6.35 one. So, your dilemma would be to find a 650w bulb with a G22 base to work correctly in the 1000w fresnel. After that, its imperative that the "LCL" distance (distance from bottom of socket to middle of bulb where the point of light is) be the same so that the bulbs all fall in the center of the mirror of the fresnel. If they're off even a bit, it usually produces an ugly mottling effect in the light which is still usable but you'll wonder if theres some problem or not though (and there is).

I did a little looking and I couldn't find a G22 base 650w but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If you look around you might find one and then be sure to check that its roughly the same size LCL measurement with the 1000w and you're okay. Hope this helps.

I'm surprised at all the positive comments in this thread, especially towards the end after the lights were proven to have problems.

I mean, is it worth saving $150 for a light that might catch fire and do damage at a location? Is it worth the difference to have light hardware break and maybe fall on somebodies head?

There's a reason it costs less. It's assembled by a 14 year old in a sweatshop with the least expensive parts possible.

Then of course there's the obvious fact that they've completely knocked-off a design from Arri who spent $$ on R&D to deliver a quality product.

I think when these lights first showed up, they had some minor problems, But I bought some bluline fresnels recently, and there really good, and for the price, you can't beat them. I only problem I had was when I first turned on the lights, there was some grease lubricant that was burning off and smoking a bit.
But I do recommend these lights.

I have also some of this lights and they are working great . They are a very well made replica after Arri Junior. I bought some of this on a trip to Hong-Kong . I bought extra 2 lights (a 650w and a 1000w light) for a friend of mine who in the meantime bought other lights.

I'm selling these 2 extra light at a reasonable price . They are bran new in the original package. Here is a more detailed link :

They are identical with Blueline lights only that these are black .

For what it's worth, I wanted to pop in and say that the Blulines are designed to work with all the ARRI accessories. In my experience they work great, never had any problems.

I LOVE imagewest's flourescents though. They put out the most beautiful 5600K light -I felt like I should be getting a tan sitting under it the first time I lit a room with one of their "cool domes". I've used their four and six banks and they're even better. I thought they looked a little cheap when I first saw them on the site, but a friend of mine brought his set over and I was blown away.

Plus their "shock absorbing" stands are very cool, as I think someone else mentioned. Basically if you slip while you're setting up or taking down, there are springs inside the stand, like a shock absorber. Your lights won't break, just bounce.

And finally, they do offer a DVX user discount. I don't remember what it is exactly, but just mention DVXuser when you order and they'll let you know, I'm sure.

Hope that helps.
