Blue Valentine Flasbhacks

For those that have seen or are familiar with 'Blue Valentine' - do you have any ideas as to what they did to differentiate the flashback sequences? It seems a little noisier and I'm sure there was some color work going on there but wanted to see what others thought.

I'm pretty sure they shot the "present" sequences on RED, and the flashbacks on film... although I could be thinking of a different movie...
