Blue screen or not? for White background

I'm sure my ques. has a thread somewhere in this forum... after several searches, I can't seem to find the threads referencing my ques. Maybe someone can direct me or answer.

In the near future i'm shooting a video with a blue screen background. The final look I'm trying to obtain is an all white background similar to those now famous Apple commercials. Would the blue screen w/ proper lighting be the best way to go and how would one key it for white background...?.. using FCP(was thinking about buying DV mattePro) or How would one do it without blue screen?

I'm sure this ques might have been asked in past....... any help would be appreciated.

I would shoot it white, I can always tell which backgounds are chroma and which are real color, depends on your audience and if you want the not so real "look"to it
I have lit for white in the past, I find it much faster and easier then chroma lighting,
watch your zebras, never clip the subject and specially never clip the white backgorund

I would also like to add, that JUST simply replacing with white will look wrong, it will have no natual shadows or gradients.

Thanks guys............ but..........
This is a music video(quick transitions and the like)... not necessarily looking for shadows, etc...... Will be using fish eye lens for effects... wouldn't mind a blown out background, just not blown out talent....... ????

It is very expensive to shoot a real seamless white BG of any large size .

It takes a lot of even light and a lot of paint and a perfect cyc.

OP mentions a fisheye lens. Thats takes a massive white stage for coverage.

All fine if you can afford it. Otherwise - a key is a good solution and can be very effective if you can work out and achieve good keys around the feet and the floor.

All suggestions were valid until "fisheye lens" was mentioned. This would take massive amounts of lighting or an "egg shell cyc"

Haven't done the test shots yet.... wanted to get a good base on where/how to start.......
The original plan was/is to key. I do plan to use a fisheye lens(not the extreme fisheye). I'll have to decide alot after 1st test are done. I'm going to use a 10' x 20' blue screen(enough for floor) I may have to spend money for a wider blue scr....... I'm not sure if I want to go to the white background sheet/screen or BS key........... any one have examples of both with white background? thx

Dude, I say still go with white if you are planning on shooting with a 10x20. You can get 10x50 rolls of white seamless that'll do the trick, heck I've put two together in the past when shooting green to get wider. You also won't have to worry as much with keying the floor, which can be a little tricky with green screen. If there are some light shadows on the floor of your white form the back lights that's still going to look better than a nasty key.

Also, remember garbage matting! If you can get all the action to fit within your 10 or 20 foot wide screen you can shoot wider and and then just garbage matte it out, could be a workable solution with your fish eye lens.
