Blu-Ray?

Anyone here burning onto Blu-Ray media?

I really want to get a mac pro, but it won't be able to burn HD content out of the box.

...so what's the point of having all this HD stuff (final cut HD, HDTV, HVX) if the mac pro's don't even come with a blu-ray burner?

I think I'm going to wait until HD is cheaper before I spend a bunch of money.

The MacPro will most likely start including a blu-ray burner (probably as an option, though) with the next update - WWDC, maybe? Now that the format war is over, they'll be more likely to take the plunge (even though Apple has been in the Blu-Ray camp since the beginning).

Of course, you have to take into account that DVD Studio Pro only burns HD-DVD's. Hmmm... Sometimes Apple just doesn't make sense.

DVD Studio Pro doesn't actually make HD-DVD compatible GUI menus etc... when they say HD DVD they refer to putting h.264 HD files onto an SD DVD.

Which coincidently only work on a mac. So not much use at all.

Unless I have been grossly mis-informed on the DVDSP 4 feature set...

Encore CS3 does Blu-Ray, and is a better authoring app in my personal opinion.

ANYWAY - the major macbook updates are coming in June, I hear. They only released this update last month because Intel stopped producing the older chips, or so I hear. Blu-ray should come then.

And if not (I'd be surprised), and/or until then, an external USB blu-ray drive will do the trick :)
