Blu Ray

I have been playing around with the BLu Ray export from the time line, in Vegas 8.
You can burn Blu Ray Video onto a normal DVD and it plays back in a Blu Ray player (up to 45min).

I have access to a Sony and Panasonic Blu Ray player, the videos I create in Vegas 8 play in the Sony player but not the Panasonic.

Has anyone tried another brand of player?

I want to get a Blu Ray player, but the Sony has really crappy load up and response time.

the playstation 3 can play blue ray movies burned on dvd from vegas.. And the playstation 3 upscales dvd really good.

Jaket,

I tried this with the setting on 25mbps, but after some time, the playstation 3 seems not to cope with the video. At first, the movie stops from time to time and then it comes to a complete standstill, freezing the PS3 for some time.

I created the same blu-ray render on dvd with 8mbps and this seems to work fine. Don't know if this is because the PS3 can't cope with the 25mbps blu-ray on dvd or if the PS3 has some fault when reading a specific part of the dvd.

Did you use 25mbps?

Thanks,

Geert

I need to explain this the best I can. A DVD and Blu-Ray are basically the same, but the Blu-Ray can fit more on the same thing, because DVDs use a 650nm laser, while the Blu-Ray uses a 405nm. So it can fit more in the same amount of space, putting data where the DVD couldn't read because the wavelength was too big.
Anyway, this comes to the PS3 Blu-Ray drive spin speed, which is only 2x, compared the the Xbox 360's 16x DVD drive speed. The fact that it can only spin at 2x, and has to search over a larger area (25mpbs video=bigger file size=more disk area) it can't reach the next part of the movie, causing it to freeze or pause because the drive can't keep up.

Now 25mpbs on a Blu-Ray would work because the disk drive doesn't have to move as far to find the next data, since it's closer together.

Hope you have a better understanding. :)

Many thanks for this explanation. Makes me understand the problem. Have to get a blu-ray writer in the near future :-)

So you can burn a 1080 blu-ray quality disc on a regular DVD+R? You are just limited on time?

For realz?

Burning a BD mpeg2 to a standard DVD+RW works great on my Samsung P1500. It's not supposed to play +RW, but it works fine.
