Blu-ray on dvdrw!

Sony Vegas 8 pro has a neat little feature. I shot some hd footage on my HVX200 and using raylight plugin dropped it into the timeline.
I clicked burn blu-ray and put a regular 4.7gig dvd-rw in the drive.
It burned the dvdrw just as if it was a blu-ray. I figured it would not play back on my PS3 blu-ray player, but when I inserted the disc it showed up. It was listed as a data disc. So I flipped through the menus and the last menu is streams, and it had my video. I pressed play and it played in 1080i.

Mind you I don't have a blu-ray burner. It is just a regular DL dvd burner.

Pretty cool that you can distribute blu-ray content on a dvd-rw. Of course your limited to 8 gigs. However that is good enough for shorts.

FYI

I tried a DVD-r it worked...I tried a DVD+r and worked too. I flipped both over and the +r took and it took about 1/2 the space the -r used. 1 minute clip was aprox 151 mb..

Im not sure why the videos didnt start playing automatically like a regular movie does. I know nothing about the file structure of a blu-ray.
Maybe there is a file that the blu-ray player sees as a cue?
Unfortunately Vegas is not an authoring program, so no menu creation is available, however the fact that it does not reject the DVD-r is pretty cool.
