Blu-Ray Burner For Mac!

This was what I was waiting for... If anyone jumps to the blu-ray ship, please post your results on encoding and viewing. This is probably the first breaktrough for mass HD distribution of our HVX content.

If possible, please post your results of encoding a DVCPRO HD 1080i/ 1080p and 720p. If this works, We are officially doing HD (and have the option to deliver an HD copy to clients!)

I know you can burn HD content on regular dvd's, but this is the next step, i believe...

Meh, I'll wait for the format war to finish first before getting too exicted. Also will wait for the price drop. Right now its like paying $1000 for a 1x CD-RW (you all remember those days, I know you do). Actually its probably worse, because at least with the CD-RW you'd have an okay success rate of people owning devices to play back CD-Rs, but how many people really own blue laser devices? Anyway, I'm not holding my breath on the blue laser front. But on the other hand, if a bunch of the drives and players fell off a back of a truck, I'd certainly snag some so that I could author out some of the DVCPro HD stuff for eye candy purposes.

cheers.

I'm not looking at the burner as a distribution format, but as an archiving format. Compare it to a standard IT tape backup system, and it is cheaper.

Sounds like a fair price, but for now I'm gonna stick with my SATA drives as backup. When DVDSP supports BluRay, then I'll look at it a little closer.

Yes, when Blu-Ray comes out, I too will be using it to archive...and archive only. HD DVD and Blu-Ray are still fighting it out and players are still WAY too expensive to anyone to really buy one until the dust settles. Even AFTER the dust settles. Player have to get below $300-$400 before people will start really adopting them. Besides the videophiles that is.

Anyone have any kind of rough idea of how long it would take to burn a 25 gig disc? That would be another issue for me. Right now I find 8.5 gig discs too slow. Also I find them too finicky as far as getting a successful burning while multi-tasking. So basically I tend to leave my system be, but then it means I lose my system for that extended time frame (which is frustrating). I'm hoping holographic discs are able to stabilize and become cost effective sooner rather than later, and maybe even push blue laser out the door as a archival medium. Anyway...

cheers.
