Blooming BMC Pocket Cam Review Part 1

He made a beautiful video at the end. I would really like to see how these cameras perform when blacks are actually black.

What a tease. Just an unboxing and no footage yet. Anyway the video at the end La Tamise is finally something interesting from Bloom. He usually shoots flowers, boats, and old women selling vegetables. It all looks fabulous, and boring. Looking forward to the pocket cam review next week.

It all looks fabulous, and boring.

At this stage (the scarcity of the camera), he could even shoot more boring stuff than usual, that would not bother me. I'd like to see how the camera performs, what kind of results we can expect when used in the type of situations we have to deal with in real life/work. One thing, for me, is to see if it would be a solid candidate for documentary-type work in 'tight' situation, where a 'full-size' camera is out of question, but the footage has to be really usable with the rest of the work shot with the cameras I usually use.

I wouldn't expect that much of a different image quality compared to the BMDCC but with new things to work out when it comes to operation. We're in an endless stream of cameras missing this and that...

My guess is that the image is going to be just as good as that from the original BMC in prores. The problem for this one is that the sensor is really tiny (3x crop factor), so lens selection is going to be an issue. Any blog about vintage S16 glass that is good but not super-expensive (yet) and can cover the pBMC sensor? With a good 8-24mm f/1.4 or similar, this camera would become a very serious option.

edit: found this here. Not perfect, but a very good place to start some lens research. Also interesting: this and this.

I'm guessing these clips were shot in prores with video curve. Both RAW and the film curve would look a lot less "like video".

There is a link to footage to download, it's not a typical link....right after the unboxing and other stuff.

You mean it's not just the camera creating the pretty pictures? Interesting... :)

It does look pretty good. As expected: just like a BMC with a smaller sensor.

He is funny. You gotta love his humor. I can't see anyone buying this camera with so many quirks. Footage looks okay but I would never even touch a camera riddled with so many faults.
