Blood, Guts, Explosions, and Gore

Hey everyone, i was just wondering whats everyone use for fake blood, fake guts, real explosions, and gore? Thanks everyone for your help.

I can't find the paperwork I printed up off a UK site but they had some great ideas how to do some of the things you want...

Try googling...

If I run across the link I'll post it...

We got some good results by adding some bread to the blood (I think it was a leftover Togo's sandwich). Since it was the results of having a head bashed in, it looked like pieces of brain or whatever and gave a disturbing consistancy to the whole shot.

on thing I've found good for cheap blood is to get a bottle of hershey's chocolate and a bottle of hershey's strawberry syrup from the supermarket.

One advantage of doing this is that you can mix the blood on camera to the appropriate redness or darkness and see how it reads under the lights, you can also get a brownish color for old bandages etc.

To see the results I got this way see my short "Shed" via the link in my signature for Zombie fest winners.

The two syrup bottles were our volume blood source and for dressing small areas we had two small bottles of theatrical blood in two different types -- coagulated and runny.

explosions

explosions

You can create cool explosions by using an air-cannon to shoot out fullers earth and foam bits. If you add little metal shavings, when the light hits it, it will make it look like a more devistating explosion...and be sure to slow it down. It makes it look much better. You can use a similar air canon to shoot blood out of people...specifically their head when you "blow their brains out". Personally I add some stringy pieces of cotton and some blood and then some cottage cheese, it looks really good when you point it at the wall. It slides down the wall with great gloopiness...if that is a word.

I made it with stuff from a hardware store and a sporting goods store. Just mount a PVC pipe that is about 3" in diameter to a small square piece of wood so that it can stand up. Cut a hole in the PVC close to the bottom of the pipe. Get some flexible plastic tubing and connect it to the PVC pipe in your favorite manner. Then buy one of those emergency bike tire pumps that uses CO2 cartridges and connect it to the plastic tubing with one of those metal O ring connectors. Then just load up the PVC pipe with whatever you want shot out of the thing...put a CO2 cartridge in the bike pump...and pull the trigger! there you have it. Sorry for my awful instructions, i was never good at explaining things. If you have anymore questions let me know.

blood is great when made from corn syrup 90% water 10% then add green and red food colouring. my most disturbing results have come from a pumpkin with a bald cap stretched over it, fill it with blood, reach in to the pumpkin guts and PRESTO! you can add milk to the blood for a thickener. its best when the whole mix is heated as you stir it. if you add milk, try to use it that day.

When trying to make it look real gorey, try using bread, but not leftovers. leftovers tend to get dry. you want it to be soft so it gets wet more. when you wet it, wet it untill it gets dark red with some blackish spots around it. blood capsules do really nice for getting shot or fight scenes. if you cant get a cut to look blackish enough try rubbing perminent marker or washable under the blood, but if your gonna use bread then color the bread a little black.

tell me it looks if you get a chance to try it

The best results I came up with included the Karo Syrup recipe and Peanut butter. Yes Peanut butter. Just try it, you won't be disappointed. And don't skimp on the PB neither. Get a good amount in there and mix in a blender....I was soooo unhappy w/ the blood I had until I did that.

the peanut butter is a real good idea too but it's messy. parents whould probably hate it, so beware because cheap blenders would break. if you go for the PB, chunky PB would most likely do better.

actully kill someone -- but do it near a bathtub or while they are standing in some sort of large vat.

then hang the body upside down as the blood drips into sealable bottles (which you should have ready beforehand) Then use that on set -- ironically you may have to add some food coloring to the real blood as it doesn't always read right on camera. This is the cheapest way.

Alternatively you could actually kill someone on camera. Go to the intensive care unit of your local hospital and find out who the terminally ill patients are. With some luck you may be able to convince these people to let you kill them on camera. I mean would you rather die in a cold institution or in a killer stunt on film -- right?

At anyrate -- goodluck.

also, paintball pellets do nice for someone geting shot but the problem is them acually get shot...with a spring gun! i don't know if the pellets make it look real though. you can get them for really cheap online.

and if you use the paintball pellets, you need to have an acurate gun. but if you want multiple shots at the actor instead of him getting shot once, make it look even more realistic buy using an electric gun. what sucks is that the actor has to go through some pain unless he wears something under what he's already wearing, like tin foil. mabey it will make good impact sound too.
