Im in the proccess, of building my own air powered squib, and I'm getting to the phase of i need to explode bloode out of it. So i need some type of blood packet, or bladder. I know condoms are used, latex gloves, Meat casing, thin plastic samwhich bags. Some of my concerns are since im working with are and have done test runs with a previous bigger system (this one you wear) is the bladders expanding and expanding then blowing up. Now I've done it in the the past where i flood the line with fake blood and meat, pekenpah style, and that looks ok but i had 10 feet to work with. Now this is a short blast at maybe a 2 feet. Might get my results, but i want blood. Suggestions.

That was like my very first version of my squib, Thanks though. I need some type of bladder, or tight thin bag i can fill with blood that will burst once the air pressure hits it.
 
oh ok, Well basicaly what my mentor did got a latex glove and a plastic ring thing and the air pressure valve would release air into the bag and causing it to explode, but make sure it shoots all at once so it wont blow up like ur just filing it up.
 
THats the problem with my system though its radio detinated and the air can be pretty well controlled but i need something that wont stretch or at least is able to stretch only a small distance before snapping. A latex glove maybe a good idead but i think that it would inflate like a condom. Still very confused, I think some type of thin casing of some sorts is the answer.
 
well that was the point of the ring was to make sure it wouldnt go out far, or you could also make ur own with latex, a mirror, and baby powder
 
One place you might try for special makeup effects supplies is Burman Industries in Van Nuys. Their paper catalog alone makes for great reading and should be on every filmmakers shelf.

I don't know if they have specifically what you need there but browsing through the latex items might spur some ideas. You may indeed need to make your own bladders if you can't find something thin enough. But I think its going to be tough to get the seal necessary between the bladder and feed hose on something that is really delicate.
 
I agree, and thats where my final problem really lays. Is to much air, and im getting a regulator i have to get a custom fitting for each tank from a plumping dealer here in town. Thank god I live in a industrial based town. But getting a bladder that is thin, wont expand to much, and will be able to seal around the hose end is the real final problem. Finding a good servo and building the remote was a challenge. But this part is minding numbing. I've been working in post forever because of this. Thanks for the line on catalog though, I'm always looking for places to get stuff from. Im cheap when it comes to latex. If i can just get by i use the latex sealer that they use with hard wood flooring to make certain props. it's harder but it works. But always am looking for a good catalog to go through. thanks bro.

hello there,

you might want to try to make the blood packs as usual, then wrap the whole thing up with duct tape, but leaving a small untaped circle/square.

the tape doesnt stretch so the only way for the pressure to release is the untaped place - blood pack cant inflate!

this of course will also help to direct the blood when it bursts out.

Polyurethane (non-allergenic, non-latex) condoms don't stretch as much.
Sausage casings (collagen, gelatin, etc) don't stretch at all, are waterproof and are fairly fragile.
