Blog post from Slamdance Film festival with submission stats, state of Indie film

"...or is it maybe Americans filmmakers have nothing really left to say?"

I'd like to see someone post the profit stats for all the festivals over last year ... they made a killing with record entries but I didn't see the number of screenings increase

I enjoyed the article but "I use a really cool $900 Panasonic GH2 hacked camera that shoots insane sensor bit rates that IMO seriously smokes a RED image (with some grading),"... ?

I'd like to see you post that on the Red forum....

Remember this is an article about saying EFF-U to the "man" in the film world. There will be unconventional poetic license.

festival submission entries don't cover the running costs of a festivals like Slamdance or Sundance, additonal box office helps but they rely heavily on sponsorship and annual events to pay for the festival and a year round staff.

Regional festivals promoted by cities or states in the US have tax breaks and budgets from the locales so any additional entries they can get from submissions helps.

You would be amazed how many producers having spent a miilion plus on a film refuse to pay the $50 demanding the film be seen by festival programmers.

Sundance has increased their slate but in my opinion does not make for a better festival.

The reality is , like them or not festivals worldwide still can make or break your film, researching the dozen or so in the US that can give you that edge is always a matter or conjecture.
