Blockbuster Online...

Anyone else have this? I almost went with Netflix but while I was renting movies the other day the slick talking Blockbuster manager sold me on the plan. The first two weeks is free so why not?

Right now this is how the plan works...for $17.99 you can have up to 3 movies on their way to you. If you mail them back, they will send you your next 3. But, the cool feature is that you can deliver them directly to the Blockbuster store. If you do this, not only will Blockbuster Online send your next 3 movies in queue, but the store will allow you to pick 3 more replacement movies while you are there. AND, they'll will through in a 1 free movie rental coupon a month! My $100 dollar DIRECTTV movie bill is SOOO outta here. I am going to have dvds all the time.

I just got 2 of my 3 first selections! The Illusionist and Snakes on a Plane baby!

If they carried HD-DVD/BD i would maybe consider them, but driving and parking and actually using my own time to get movies is not appealing to me at all. Plus i have like 3 blockbuster card accounts , thats a hassle doin that. 1 of them, they still blame me for a lost Madden 05 on PS2. They let a friend of mine rent it on my account, even though he was NOT authorized for my account, then he lost it, and now i owe them 150 bucks.

LOL. we laugh about it all the time, i thought it was funny he got away with it, then we he lost it, he said hed give me the 150, but i dont want it. its the principle that blockbuster was at fault.

bleh, anyways, You dont have to do everything in 3's Rick? you can just mail 1 movie back and get one more movie no?

I have the plan and I think it's great. Basically you never have to wait for a movie, you can always go exchange one for one at a store and have your next selection mailed out. Plus, I'm not a fan of having to mail movies back so I've avoided Netflix for that reason.

The problem with Netflix is that it's hard to get new releases that are in high demand. With Blockbuster's online deal, you can exchange the mailed DVDs at any store for a new release. That's the kicker for me.

I've used both. I started with blockbuster, but dropped after about two months. For one, it took too long to get the movies. And second, most importantly, they had a vastly limited selection, especially in terms of foreign films. Heck, the foreign films they did have had LONG waiting lists.

I currently have Netflix and have been using it for 18 months. Quick shipping times, superb selection, short wait (if any).

BUT- exchanging in store at Blockbuster, that's a pretty nice perk.

My friend just ditched Netflix for Blockbuster and she's regretting it. She says there isn't a third of the selection that Netflix has.

And I hope Netflix will open stores and crush Blockbuster like the grapes they are.

Netflix B&M would, as cool as it would be, ruin the whole experience.

Going into a Blockbuster feels so dirty to me. The people, the employees, the horrible cases for the movies. Stained floors. Hollywood video is slightly more modern, but mostly just as bad.

two Blockbuster stores near me have closed in the last year. as have other B&M video stores. online mail order is the future. and VOD is the future's future.

I'm so against VOD...

Technology, though I'm great with computers, almost never works for me.

I'd take a working VHS over a skippy (insert HD-DVD/Blu-Ray/VOD here) any day.

And today's video on demand is skippy, atleast for me.

I wouldn't hold your breath for a Netflix B&M. Especially since they just announced a streaming video service.

I have Blockbuster online. It's pretty nice how you can go into the store and trade it out, but they don't seem to try very hard to get the movies to you quickly. If you put one in the mail on Wednesday, you won't get it Friday, you will get it Monday.

Never tried Netflix.

Im in South San Francisco, Work in San Jose. The Netflix is in San Jose around here. What I do is if i have a movie, Monday morning i put in mail box at the office. Netflix says they recieve it on Tuesday and are shipping next movie. I recieve it on Wednesday. Just swap out the days and thats how it always has been. If a movie isnt available at the local Netflix center, i get it from either Washington or Colorado in 2 days instead of 1

I've used the Blockbuster Total Access Online 2wk Free-Trial three times now.

It's great getting movies for free. lol.

Just read yesterday that Netflix is adding a play now feature on their website in a few months. Not sure how compressed it will be, but it's a step in the right direction.

with the advent of Apple's iTV, it won't be long before cable and DirecTV is a thing of the past and we are downloading content from the NetFlix "channel", the Google "channel", etc.

Yes. You can do that. Because each movie comes separately. They just try to ship them out whenever they get their grubby little hands on 'em and can put them in the mail...

But, I understand not wanting to drive to Blockbuster. But, on this plan, if you DO drive to Blockbuster, you can exchange your already viewed 3 movies, for three new movies in the store, AND it will automatically alert Blockbuster Online to ship out the next 3 in your queue. So, in theory, you could have 6 movies working all the time...

Don't get me wrong. I want Netflix to stay in business for as long as they can. Because if they die a slow and painful death, Blockbuster will only jack everything up. The dirty scoundrels. But for now, this seems like a cool alternative to DIRECTTV's REDICULOUSLY OUTRAGEOUS PRICES FOR THE MOVIE CHANNELS. I'm sorry....lost my head for a sec there....

And sure, the Blockbuster Online selection isn't quite up to Netflix's numbers yet. But, its just a matter of time. Besides, out of the 65,000 movies Blockbuster Online DOES have, I think there might be one or two of them I haven't seen yet.

PS Oh and one more thing, (I gather Netflix would probably do the same thing) but the movies came in an envelope you just pull apart. Inside is a little paper sleeve with the DVD as well as a postage paid envelope to pop that DVD in there when you are done watching it and drop it in the mail. It couldn't be easier, really.

Wouldn't the store simply mark that you exchanged your 3 DVDs for 3 new ones in the store, and stop it there?

If the plan tha you outlined does in fact work, then that was poor planning on Blockbuster's part.

TC,

rlm7189 is correct. You can have 6 movies in your posession at one time.

I just cancelled my Blockbusters free trial this evening, and they sent me an email an hour later, telling me they just sent me another movie in my que. lol.

I love those free trials.

I got Netflix for Christmas and like it so far. Didn't want Blockbuster mainly because they've been a client of mine and were, shall we say, less than enlightened. It's a long story that's only interesting to me. And even then, not so much.
