Blinking Picture on Preview Monitor

So, I don't know if this is a Vegas setting or a computer issue. But here goes.

My setup is as follows, Preview monitor is setup to DV out in Vegas, using Firewire to a Canopus ADVC110, to my preview monitor via S-Video. I get a blinking picture whenever I pause Vegas in the timeline. It is really annoying when I'm trying to frame a picture or titling. Seems to be ok when I play the video. I'll get an occasional dropped frame, but not a constant blinking in and out.

I know it is not a monitor issue, I have tried it with different inputs and different sources and this is the only thing that has a problem.

To make sure it wasn't a Canopus issue I also tried using my camera on a different firewire port and I still get the same issue. I don't think this is a computer issue, b/c I upgraded my PC in Dec.....but this issue has been happening since that time.

I was using a 3G P4 w/ 1G of DDR2-PC5300 with a PCI firewire card, now I have a 1.8 C2D w/ 2G DDR2-PC6400 w/ firewire built into the mobo. It is just making me think that when I loaded Vegas on my new PC that I was doing something differently.

Any ideas how to make the flashing go away?

Yeah, I actually had a crappy mobo that I basically got for free when I bought the processor back in December. Gotta love the crapy deals from Fry's. I couldn't take it anymore and I just got an MSI P6N Platinum mobo and an MSI 7600 video card. Not the newest card on the market but still has 256M and is PCI express.

I didn't know that the preview rendered via the video card? I might be able to look for driver updates or look into over-clocking it or something.

The only other thing I haven't tried is sticking the PCI firewire card in to see if it and the built in ports run on different bridges or not. I just find it strange that it works basically fine when video is playing and has a cow when it is paused. I would think that would require far less system resources to render......but I barely know what I'm talking about so here I am.
