Blind Side

We went out to see Sandra Bullock's new movie, Blind Side.

It's not her usual ditsy romantic comedy character, and only a few, simple special effects. Some people might think its a little to cliche, but I think it succeeds in going a little deeper than most mainstream releases. Its simple moving human drama with a good story to tell.

I laughed at reviewers labeling it implausible because its based on the real life of football player, Michael Oher. There were moments when the entire (packed) theater was crying. It probably won't fare as well with the teeny bopper, shoot everything and blow it up crowd.

A bit saccharine, but even so I was impressed. I think she'll probably get an nomination out of this one. You don't need a special camera to make a good movie.

Loved the film. Sandra Bullock rocked. Nothing much more to say than it was very enjoyable, great story, great acting and music and that I will buy it when it comes out. Refreshing.

Really? Mind you I haven't seen the movie, but I was completely turned off by the trailer. It looked like just another tired 'inspirational' story about someone changing a kids life. I mean I even laughed at the closing of the trailer when they said "You changed that kids life" and Sandra replies "No, he changed mine" or something to that effect. Corny anyone?

But hey, maybe I'm wrong. Reviews seem good. No one found the movie corny at all?

Oh, I never said this was a great movie. Bullock gives a great performance, but it really is a pretty by-the-numbers inspirational/sports movie.

Don't you think that's because its not a movie about football any more than Million Dollar Baby is a movie about boxing. The boxing and football are merely back drops.

You said it yourself when you said it was an inspirational movie. The same goes with the brief glimpses of the projects. Its not a sociology project any more than its a primer about how to block a defensive lineman.

It might not be a classic, but its a good story, its entertaining, and it has good acting.

I'm sorry, but when your movie has cameos by six different S.E.C. football coaches, it's a sports movie. When the second half of your movie is about "will he or won't he get a college football scholarship, and where will he go?," it's a sports movie.

The Blind Side was written and directed by the same guy who did The Rookie, yes, another inspirational/sports movie.

Actually felt kinda strange while watching it. Stereotypical white charity saves a stereotypical black youth from a life on the streets.
I know that this was "based" on a true story, but I cant help but notice the cringe worthy tweaking of the story to make it into the white feel-good movie of the summer.
This of course is just my take on the film.
