Bleach Bypass Filter - Result Very Grainy

I have outdoor daytime footage (no grain) shot on the XHA1 and I ran a makeshift bleach bypass filter in Final Cut to get a film look.

That is, I overlayed a completely desaturated B&W version of the clip over one with the blacks and whites both turned up a bit.

The end result looks really good except for one thing - the footage is now very grainy.

Is there a way to toggle with the settings to reduce this problem. The footage would look perfect if this were corrected.

Thanks!

Well raising the whites is brightening the image which produces grain. So you can play with that, you can also play with with reducing the mids instead.

but brightening footage in post adds grain. that's about all there is to it. You can always go darker in post without adding noise, but brightening the image will add a little or a lot of grain depending on the original footage and how far you are pushing it.
