Bleach Bypass Filter in FCP

I wanted to experiment with a Bleach Bypass filter in post for some footage.

However, I can't locate this feature in Final Cut. Does it go by another name or is there an alternate way of doing it (or am I just missing it)...

Thanks...

There is no filter called Bleach Bypass in FCP. However, there are a few (quite a few) third party filters out there. A simple google will show you them.

However - for free: The bleach bypass process (also called skip bleach) is a process during film processing where silver is not removed from the negative. Essentially you end up with a black and white image superimposed on a color image. The end result is increased contrast and reduced saturation... so... try duplicating the track and making the Upper one Black and White Change it's composite mode to Multiply and adjust the contrast... or the otherway around.

Well... actually I couldn't quite figure it out that way - a good fake might be to desat with 3-way the LOWER one... then push the whites and crush the blacks so you get a nice contrast. Then just lower the opacity on the upper level to taste.

Or just buy one.

If you have Final Cut Studio 2, you could bring the project into COLOR and they have some Bleach Bypass Presets in there. I prefer to do it manually and tweak it to each shot, however. Just to even it out.

If you don't have color, do what Captain said. Crush the blacks and push the whites then desaturate the image.

Hope that helps!
