I have the task of setting up multiple (at least 3) editing systems. After doing some research i have narrowed my choice of converters and devices to,

1 x Blackmagic Decklink Multibridge Pro
2 x BlackMagic Decklink HD Pro (Dual Link) PCIe 4 Lane
2 x BlackMagic Design HDLINK Pro

Can anyone give me any feedback on using these with FCP? ANy advantages or disadvantages? What limitations might i expect? Is blackmagic a good choice.

I will mostly be editing music videos and commercials. I am using the panasonic LH1700 17" Monitor. MacPro 2.8ghz 4gb.

What format are you editing and what format are you cutting to tape in?
I have been happy with my Blackmagic hardware. I used to use the Decklink HD Pro because it was the only card that worked on a PCI-x slot on my G5. It was a little overkill for what I was doing (all firewire ingest) but it was nice to know that if I could ever afford a high end client monitor, I had HD-SDI out. Now I just use an Intensity Pro which is more than enough for me (although I do wish there were more presets with the Intensity)
Speaking of which, it seems that Panasonic monitor only has SDI in, not HD-SDI, so you won't be able to take advantage of that feature.

input = mostly p2. Need to be able to handle RED. Some digibeta.
Ouput = Mostly Digibeta, DVCAM. Will want to upgrade to HDCam or even higher, but not for now.

According to the specifications for the LH1700w on bhphotovideo.com: "Two SDI inputs with automatic switching between HD and SD comes standard." What does this mean? is the 1700w impractical for studio monitoring of HD?

That sounds kind of misleading to me. It sounds like a tricky way of saying we have SDI, but not HD-SDI but it can monitor HD. Very confusing. I am curious what happens when you send an HD signal through SDI - does it down covert the signal to SD or is it just like sending it through a component signal.

If you are planning on HDCAM at some point, obviously a Decklink HD or above is the way to go with probably a preference towards the Pro vs Extreme so you get 4:4:4 color space.
I don't know too much about the multibridge pro

I just spoke to B&H and they say that one (of the two) SDI is SD and the other is HD. The monitor automatically switches between the two of them.
