Blackmagic Pocket 495.00 Summer Sale

Further, I wish there was a 2/3" version, it would be amazing to use all the inexpensive B4 glass there is out there. (Which also just makes me shake my at why the Blackmagic (Broadcast) Studio Camera isn't 2/3" & is closer to a super16mm sensor size. For crying out loud, if your market is broadcasters, use a chip size that modern broadcasting is already using.)

The problem with this is that if Blackmagic did do a 2/3" sensor, it would be super soft wide open unless they corrected for the prism normally in 2/3" lenses. There are B4 to Super16 adapters out there, though, like the new HDx1.4, so solutions are already out there.

The only real issue the camera has would be aliasing/moire.

The rest are personal preferences. Can't for the life of me understand why in camera formatting is instrumental to anyone that actually needs to verify and do redundancy on footage in the first place. But they're already planning to add it soon.

Ar samys right now grabbing and hdmi cable, three people in line with brand new pocket cameras for the price drop. Asked the samys guy if they sell.. "Out best selling camera ". Was top list on BH for quite some time.

BMd would have to find an off the shelf 2/3" anyway. Not sure there is one that's be up to what they want to put in a camera.

Maybe, but judging from past releases it will be delayed by many months and then ship with unfinished features and serious bugs.
I should add that I'll probably pick one of these up anyway.
I am tempted to do the same. super small camera that out performs an iPhone in some ways. They make a nice pair for daily carry potentially.

Ha, yeah, many cameras have been tempting, but more than likely I will wait.

Anyone who comments about all the problems this camera apparently has hasn't produced with it or seen well shot footage with it.
The BMPCC with it's dedicated Metabones .58 speed booster has become a one of a kind instrument.
Combined with the Sigma 18-35mm and MB it produces images you won't see on many other cameras at any price.
There can be occasional moire and aliasing, less than many cameras, and never once bad enough to be an issue in about 20 TV spots and 5-6 commercial films I've produced with them.
And it's native 800 asa which combined with the MB makes it a very fast camera that shoots directly to ProRes.
$500 is silly good. Don't need another, but it means there will be a v2 coming right up which I'll be all over - love these little units.

Interesting, thanks. There are some hypersensitive picky types that don't consider a 1080p image alias free unless it hits a freakin' Nyquist limit I guess. I'm not one of them but I have run into aliasing occasionally with the GH4 that wasn't so swell.

I would totally buy today, if I wasn't thinking the $500 price drop meant it's about 30 days from being obsolete.

I think there is a big difference between something being cutting edge & being obsolete. Depending on what you do, a HVX might still hack it for many jobs. Though something like a DVX is just a museum piece or door stop by now.

The BMPCC won't be the go-to camera in 2015, but even after a BMPCC v2 or v3 comes out, it'll probably still be a worth while camera for a lot of uses. And $500 for what it does is just kinda crazy.

If you can make beautiful films with it today, you can make beautiful films with it in coming years, regardless of the cost or whatever new cameras come out in the meantime - including the BMPCC v.2

If 1080 is the playing field, (and it will be for most of the real $ and for broadcast for quite a while to come) then the image from the little BMPCC will continue to have great value.
