Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera Footage

Hey guys,

I was lucky enough to be chosen by Blackmagic to test their up-and-coming Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera (BMMCC).

I put together this first video in order to test one of the main features that was missing in (my favourite camera of all time) the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC); high-frame-rates.

I would have been very content if Blackmagic gave us 48FPS in the BMMCC, but they went a little further and gave us 50FPS and 60FPS.

I also wanted to test how the BMMCC played with my CAME-TV Single 3 Axis Gimbal: http://www.came-tv.com/camesingle-3-axis-gimbal-camera-32bit-boards-with-encoders-p-673.html

Speaking of which, I found a pretty cool cage also made by CAME-TV that I used with the BMMCC: http://www.came-tv.com/cametv-cage-for-blackmagic-micro-cinema-camera-p-721.html

I'll post some pictures I took on my phone below for those interested in seeing the setups I used.

Also, I'd like to say "thank you" to Kristian Lam and Hook from Blackmagic for giving me this opportunity! You guys are legends! Thank you!

Anyway, hope you guys like the video :)

Im excited about this cam, shame no SDI.

Nice footy.. did you add light to the int/ext shots beyond the practical flouros?

Waht is the second lens? 7-14 panny?

Any chance of an ungraded int/ext clip?

Thanks :)

No added light - just used natural/available light.

The second lens is the Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8. All gimbal shots were done with the Panasonic with the lens always set at 12mm.

I'll check and see if it's cool to post an ungraded shot :)

Very very nice. Any special grading? It looks like you used gimbal. How did that work out? Really exciting what could be done wth that. Makes the DJI MFT cameras sort of irrelevant.

Can c-mount lenses be used with this camera?

Do it with the BMPCC so I don't see why not. Planning on doing it with the micro. Make sure they are S16 not 16mm or D mount. Although some 16mm lenses will cover a S16 sensor such as the BMMCC.

Nice Job Simon! Looks really solid. I'm a little bummed about the lack of hd-sdi. Other than that, this is going to be a nice little camera even though we wont be able to get one until 2025 :0(

i like the blackmagic "look". for me, the footage just looks darn good.

hard to complain about the s16 sized chip.

the m4/3 lenses are plentiful.

though i have been a fan of the pocket (bmpcc), i think i'd wait until this is actually released before i put my order in.

i do wonder how this is different than the pocket's footage.

be well.

The colors coming from this camera look really nice. Noam Kroll did a test with this camera a little while ago that I liked a lot too (and it was all 24 fps):

I'm also intrigued by the form factor. Without an LCD, the battery should last quite a bit longer, and you won't be blocking any buttons by mounting a monitor behind this camera like you would with a DSLR/mirrorless.

I just hope that it doesn't suffer from the moire that the BMPCC did, or that fixed pattern noise from which so many of the BlackMagic cameras seem to suffer. I guess only time will tell.

It has the same look as the BMPCC to me, which in terms of color I found somewhat limiting. Frankly I'm underwhelmed by the specs on this, although the size and form factor are intriguing.

I am really looking for a camera with a different feature set than this little cam....but...I love the aesthetic. Only dreaming, but I would love this body, with Sony tech, Canon's simple menu layout and color science, with RED Weapon resolution. ...ok..so Alexa mini is close.

Not to get side tracked, this BMD offering is pretty cool.

I watched it a second time and saw moire all over the left side of the chain-link fence at around 0:18. Still love the image, but that kind of kills this for me. There's already enough to worry about on a shoot.
