That's a good question. I want to know as well because I'm thinking about getting this card also. Does anybody care to shed some light on this topic?
 
It depends on what you're trying to do. If you're doing cuts only DV, would you need it? Probably not. If your trying to do a great deal of color grading and motion graphics work... probably. If you're trying to interface with a broadcast deck to make D-Beta masters.... absolutely. There ain't another way to do it. If all you're doing is mostly cuts only DV, then stick with FW. You gotta understand that the card alone is useless, you must have more hardware to make it work.

Graeme Nattress had an excellent write-up comparing FW DV with 10bit over SDI, but I couldn't find it with just a google. Trying searching for it. Lots of useful information.

Well I have a production monitor and I would mainly use it for that at the moment. I will probably be getting a deck at one point in time , but not in the near future. what other HW would you need ? Thanks
