Blackmagic Cinema Camera Update 15.03.2013

So the Black Magic Cinema Camera is starting to ship more and more units? That's great news. When they catch up to all of their pre-orders, it's going to start putting more pressure on the Ikonoskop and Scarlet-X (Raw Camera) market. I'm glad to see that the BMCC has finally got the gears turning.

Also with the new Metabones adapter the whole wide angle and dof limitations could be mitigated, putting even more pressure on those guys.

As soon as the MFT BMCC is in stock, I think I'll pick one up just for the heck of it. I wasn;t going to get one due to the small sensor size all manual control (not even push to focus for run-n-gun filming) but I keep hearing so much about it I cant ignore it anymore.

BMD should have kept their mouth shot until the camera was already in warehouses. Now that would have been a bomb! I dropped my order back in September last year and still it's not something you can buy in store. NAB is not to far away and I guess we'll see the next generation from BMD by then and probably some competitors.

With the amount of units they are "allegedly" shipping, by the time the pre-orders are filled the rest of us will be shooting 8k on our e-mount smart phones and living underground (the Earths surface being uninhabitable, hottest day on record here today 45c/113f).

I hope they make enough money to release a 4/3 mount that is fully functioning and works with the new Metabones adapter. That would be very reasonably priced camera with a lot of great features and options.

it's utterly rediculous. it's obvious whoever their getting sensors from can't come near to keeping up with demand. If it's this big an issue, then why not redesign with a super35:), their everywhere.

They never had a sensor demand problem, it was the company that glues the glass layer on the sensor, that messed it up big time.

It's not directly the sensor manufacture's fault, they were badly let down by their cover-glass supplier, and as they'd never had to do anything like this, their QC didn't pick up the cover-glass problem.

I've read over at BMCUser that a S35 sensor of equivilent performance would more than double the price. And, no, not everyone who's pre-ordered a $3k BMv could afford a $7k (What I've heard it would cost) one.

Edit, Frank posted while I was typing

Correct, because as soon as the price goes up, so also the market shrinks.

AHH, I didn't know it was a cover glass issue. I was just kind of kidding about changing over to the s35 sensor. I like blackmagic as it is, and of course love the price. I'm just kind of irritated that I can't buy one now. errr

There's no readily available S35 sensor with anywhere near the DR of the BMC. Unless a big player wants to sell you theirs (Canon, Sony, etc), you're pretty much stuck with BMC or smaller.

Thats my favorite feature of the camera, did you see the video clip of the carnival, where they increase the exposure, I was shocked at how the detail in the shadows (which initially just looked black) popped out, the final grade was inbetween, and wow! just beautiful latitude. It's like a hot fudge sundae, you want to take a big bite of:)

Yes, and, right now, it's either that, or big sensor. Not a huge deal if the metabones thing works fine, though (it turns the BMC and it's 2.3x crop factor into APS-C or 1.63x crop factor).
