Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Something like this BMCC would've been unfathomable even 3 years ago.
Well, no, four years ago, Red announced the 3K Scarlet, which and had similar specs but was 3K (instead of 2.5K) and included an integrated 8x zoom lens. So somebody else "fathomed" something like the BCC. Only this time I expect it to actually be released.

Be careful, Vinten ball profiles aren't universal. Vinten 100mm ball heads won't work on Cartoni's for instance.

thanks. yeah, I was wondering if that was possible. I still dont know if I should grab one around 500 or go the
cheapie route.
Heres a cheapie that gets raves and pans.

I got the LS38M (2A) for my first video tripod for use with the HMC150. I upgraded to the RH25 Head and kit sticks when I purchased my AF100. The RH25 head was rated for a heavier load and included some drag control that was not available on the LS38 head. I like both systems. The difference in the LS38 and the LS38M is the spreader the 38 has a ground level spreader and the 38M has a mid level spreader. Spreader type is strictly a matter of personal preference!

thanks alot. yeah, these Libecs are sounding sweet for the LOW hi end.

Valid concerns. But I'd like to point out, again, that it's called a cinema camera, not a video production camera. That means they are specifically designating it for studio type use. If people need a video camera there area my other options.

This is clearly, stated by the manufacturers, a cinema camera. It will have similar quirks to other cinema cameras.

"Cinema cameras" have never been (or ever will be) restricted to "studio type use". Location work has always been (and will remain) an important part of production. A legitimate camera needs to work well in both.

I think this is true . I said earlier that the 13 stops of DR that Bm claimed was a safe one ...workable..It looks alot higher .
But we will know soon enough :)
If it's the Fairchild sCMOS sensor, it's also capable of frame rates up to 100 fps with a rolling shutter and 50 fps with a global shutter. We've heard that it's a rolling shutter. If it is the Fairchild, then maybe global-shutter mode has a significantly lower dynamic range.

We are getting a bit OT but: I recommend trying to find a good used Miller DS series, I see them going pretty regularly for under $1k. I don't like any of the Cartonis until you get to the Gamma series (which are pretty expensive). Manfrottos will do in a pinch as long as you don't need a demanding move (working with long lenses). Haven't used the Libec or any of the new Chinese heads. I prefer the Millers or Vintens to the smaller Sachtlers, larger Sachtler 18s, 20s and up are very good but very expensive especially on CF legs.

A good head and set of sticks is a worthwhile investment.

I think I heard somebody say that the sensor was capable of more fps but the processing was not.

After all I have read, I think BM going with the EF mount still makes the most sense. I still see more people with Canon DSLRs than any m4/3 camera doing video work, so it makes sense that these people would benefit most and find it a no-brainer to go to this camera if they are looking for something down this path. Heck, as a B camera to an FS700 I am even thinking. The price is just right and for the majority of B-camera work, my 11-16 is going work great.

Agreed, there are far less people who own m4/3 lenses right now than there are EF lens owners. After all, who doesn't own a Canon DSLR these days? Very few people, methinks. For better or worse, it gives the BMC a greater mass appeal if the bulk of their potential customers already have the lenses to put in front of their new camera.

I guess a lot of people are going to be disappointed when they will have the camera because they won't understand its limitation. What I wanted at nab was just a large sensor camera head and output that could be captured. Guess what, this is much more than I expected and I understand the limitation to get that image quality. I won't say studio but controlled shooting and many won't be comfortable shooting with it.

thanks man, great tips.

Yeah, Manfrotto was what was poppin in my head. I bought there steadicam {sp? } small rig, which I havent been able
to do much with { doesnt seem to balance or something} , but I think thats the mindset. Unless theres some chinese import company thats nailed it for that price range. thanks

If you mean 'fig rig', it's great. I've used them for weddings. the steadycam merlin + clones are USELESS!

Both the 501 and 701 are junk, as well as not being true fluid heads. Save your money till you can afford a used Vinten or something.
It doesn't have to be a true sealed pressurized fluid head to be effective of smooth. It simply has to be well engineered and used properly. The DS10 is not a true fluid head but the functionality is smooth ( and stiff ) and I never get 'jerks' off of it. The heavier my load the smoother my moves. True fluid heads are in the $2K-$20K range. look up cartoni

Absolutely, when I saw this camera with those handles on, first thing that came to mind, Fig Rig will fit this camera like a glove.

Listen. Pro advise here. Go the ebay used route. Save yourself the grief of upgrading to a decent kit in a year.
Just found this on the swamp. Offer the guy $1,200 and make the extra money up somehow. you will not be sorry and this is a much better head than my DS10.

Oh and you can use it for the next 5-10 years.

Yes. Indeed.

Nah, got me a used Vinten 20 head and sticks, for the same price as a new 504 and Manfrotto tripd.
The head alone weights 15 lbs, but get´s the job done, whatever you throw at it.

Frank

Thanks. I love your answer!
