Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Just saw this from the CML list re: the BMD Camera - "Everyone will be making single chip RAW cameras in their basement within five years."

Kind of made me think, this is actually probably a decent prediction. I can see custom camera builds being done like computers are nowadays.

Makes you wonder if they saw the gaping hole in the market left by the 3K for $3k (3K for $6k) RED stuff. Frame rates aside, it is almost the same... Better, in some respects (LCD, ins/outs, DR)

I guessed I should have dreamed for more? :-)

... My dream is that someone has figured out that AJA, SoundDevices, Atomos, etc. have done a lot of work for them, and "all" they have to do is come out with is the front end of a video camera, not the back end -- not a complete camcorder.

Make it available with a "common" mount or two (maybe old-style Nikon, or PL, or offer both), an APS-C or larger (preferably FF) sensor, built-in NDs optional but would be nice, and 1080p 10-bit 4:2:2 (@ 24p, 25p, 30p & 720p60/50 ... of course 1080p60/50 would be nice)

... no internal recording! Just high-quality 1080p HDMI live out please!

... put all this in a small-ish metal box with lots of 1/4" & 3/8" threaded holes in it, and give it clean normal not-screwed-up HDMI or HD-SDI live out!

End users would configure this cam head together with an external video recorder, EVF or monitor, lenses, filters, matte box, battery power, etc. Audio sources would be connected to the external recorder.

I mean, how difficult can this be for a "real company" (not a VW bus full of hippies, or egomaniacs)?

Oh, and they can say they also have a 4K version coming late next year, but for 2012 & 2013, good ol' clean 10-bit 4:2:2 1080p is fine.

Thank you very much. ;-)

Pretty sure it's CMOS. I've heard some reports from folks at the booth in NAB that it does have rolling shutter.

But this is third hand, keep in mind. I don't really know.

I really really hope people keep all these things in perspective. For everything we're getting here and for how much, BMD (which is going to be as well known a term as 5D soon) has done something amazing. I'll deal with rolling shutter LOL.

How can they make everything perfect and screw up the sensor size???
The combination of an EF mount and the tiny sensor doesn't make any sense.

I think Canon lost 25% of the 5D III sales if BMD actually delivers.

Not a chance Canon lost 25% of total 5D MK III sales.

Maybe this took a hunk out of 5D MK III units that will be purchased for video. But I think Canon has already made it pretty apparent that the video consumers of the 5D MK III are not nearly as important as the photography customers.

Yes, yes, off course. It's just weird that they forgot to publish this info... I to wouldn't care if it's cmos for this price tag!

I think assuming it was anything other then CMOS would've been dumb to begin with. You almost don't even need to announce what kind of sensor anything is anymore, everyone knows lol.

I was going to get two 5D3 bodies; just now it's become only one, for stills, and may become a D800 if the dxomark results are not great, once I'm not tied to Canon for video

In the beach dusk video (at the end) you can see dozens of hot pixels. What´s that about?
And I don´t think this cameras produces nice pictures above 800 ISO. It seems to be a great camera, though.

for about $650 you can get 2 256GB SSD's and an external dual docking station w/ esata. Not bad, not bad at all!

So wide angle options are as follows: Tokina 11-16 (Which is now a 26-38 equivalent) Thats it.

If they had gone with a M4/3 mount, we could have used the fantastic SLR Magic and Olympus 12mm but nope, they had to go with the stupid Nikon and Canon mount which automatically gives us a 2.4X crop on every lens we use. Major Bummer. So close Black Magic, so close. My suggestion? Buy a Tokina 11-16 NOW before they become impossible to find.
