Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Consider my jaw well and truly dropped.

I couldn't care less about the sensor size... s16mm has been doing just fine for decades. 13 stops DR, 12 bit, RAW, great 2K output, professional I/O options, on board SSD, beautiful design and UI. My only concern is ISO.... I think it will be quite a bit lower than people are getting used to.

Stunning though. I hope they can deliver!

It's slightly larger than S16, and slightly smaller than m4/3.

Yeah, it will be similar to AF100 DOF, but not quite as shallow at the same settings. A negligible amount, most likely.

AF100 DOF is near S35, so it'll be a decent sized change over. I can be fine with a 17mm as my widest on M4/3, at S16 I must have an 8mm.

GOod thing there are two sets right down the street. >:]

At least now the doubters will see what many have said about how those big corporation have been overpricing there gear. When you see the state of imaging and processing technology you could see that something like this was possible. The hacked gh2 already showed how powerful the sensor and electronic were in those tiny consumer camera, and now this. I hope blackmagic all the success and will buy from them as soon as I can. I think if this first one is a huge success they will design a s35 version in the future. But I think in its current state it is still fantastic and blackmagic should be backed up by the filmmaker community.

Normally I don't post just lurk for good info and tips because I'm more of a sound guy but this camera and a full copy of Resolve and scopes software I'm ready to buy now good thing I cancelled my Scarlet order this past January. I can even add new lens and still come under $6k. Oh and 64gig SSD are about $200-350 in Japan if you go to the right place! Now if someone could please post where they are pre selling this bad boy so I can order it I can call it a wrap on following NAB so close!

Besides the Super16 sensor, tha fact that it is - again - Apple and Canon centered is a bit sobering.
To use the included Ultrascopes software you need a Thunderbolt laptop (aka MAC). The SSDs need to be MAC formated, which is a pain in the butt, if you are on a PC - meh.

And I wish they had also a Nikon mount, so I can finally dump all those adapters.

But damed, those pictures are tempting.

Looks great but can't help feeling they missed a trick - why EF/ZF and no universal short flange distance mount. With that sensor size it would open up access to all that S16 and c mount glass. Much easier to find a fast wide lens in S16 than 35mm.

cheers

I don't think this proves that the big corporations are overpricing their gear. I think it proves that niche companies are best suited to build niche products. When Canon puts their resources behind something, they have to think bigger than Black magic in terms of sales, because of their greater overhead.
