Things keep getting better and more exciting over at BMD

Hi guys,

We’ve just released Camera v1.8.2 and it is now available to download on our website.

This release adds support for ProRes 422, ProRes 422 LT and ProRes 422 recording for the following cameras:

1) Pocket Cinema Camera
2) Blackmagic Cinema Camera
3) Production Camera 4K

On the Production Camera 4K, you can use these codecs in both HD and 4K recordings.

The new software can be download from this URL:

Thanks.

Talking bout shaking things up. This more than compensate s for the other issuses, and at $495, just insane. Im back onboard.

I think they're finally listening. It's like the original Hyperdeck Shuttle that could only do uncompressed & then v2 added ProRes HQ & DNxHD 220x. Yes, very much yes. We don't always need uncompressed & we don't always need ProRes HQ. Many times I want a lower bit rate so I can keep rolling for longer on the drive space I have at hand.

You forgot to mention ProRes Proxy(36Mbps at 1080/24) which is about the same data rate as a stock Canon DSLR(38Mbps) yet still 10bit 4:2:2. That's awesome!

Well maybe not so awesome. The compression scheme isn't nearly as efficient as h.264 so for the same bit rate, the quality won't be as high. You have to look at all the variables.

I didn't upgrade before.. is it enought to upgrede the latest to get all the upgrades for BMPCC ?

I upgraded since I don't need HQ all the time and ProRess 422 and 422LT work just fine for my current needs and the disk space it saves is great. PLUS you now have more SD cards available to record on since the bitrate is lower on these newer codecs

This may be an obvious question, but does the ProRes Proxy files work like regular ProRes 422 movie files or only as a proxy file that will need to be up-rezed with higher quality footage after editing. I'm familiar with using proxies to make an edit workflow easier, but am not sure about the name 'proxy' for in-camera recording. Will it record both a proxy and high-res file? Hope that made sense . . . thanks!

ProRes Proxy is misleading - it is still ok for general use (web / quick turn around).
