Black Magic Intensity Pro and Vegas

Two questions.

As HD moves more throughly through our daily editing lives I have a two questions...

Does anybody have any information about the Black Magic Intensity card and its compatability with Sony Vegas 8. Good bad indifferent

Also has anybody tried editing HVX footage through Raylight's plug in using this card and previewing on HDTVs?

Any or as much informations as possible would be great.

Thanks in advance?

I have no experience with HVX footage and the Raylight plugin, so I can't comment on that.

The Intensity Pro card works in Vegas with a few serious limitations. It can be used as an external monitor device for editing and it works relatively well. Vegas will NOT recognize the Intensity MJPEG files but Vegas will work fine with its YUV files. Unfortunately, the HD YUV files are 120 megabytes per second, so you have to have a very fast RAID array with tons of space.

I've been pounding both Sony and Blackmagic for months about the MJPEG problem, but it still hasn't been resolved. Curiously, Vegas will decode the Intensity's MJPEG files using the Vegas internal MJPEG decoder as long as the Intensity card is NOT installed on that machine. There is an incompatibility between the Intensity codecs and Vegas. The current Intensity drivers are v1.8.2 and were released last November, they were listed as having "beta" support for Vegas Pro 8. I'm hoping that the v1.8.3 drivers will solve the problems and finally let the Intensity and Vegas work together.

John, great job at laying the problem specifics out with Vegas an BM Intensity.

I was thinking about buying the BM Intensity Pro and using it with my BM HDLINK to capture.
The HDLINK does not offer audio via it's HDMI, it has analog component outputs.

I want to capture directly to Cineform's NEO HD 1080 24P using the intensity card. I believe this will work, but I'm not 100% sure you can capture the intensity pro cards analog RCA inputs along with the HDMI signal at the same time into Cineform NEO HD utility named HDLINK.

Man, it sure makes it confusing when two different companies use the same name for totally different products!

The Intensity Pro does have a mode which will capture video via HDMI and audio via the analog RCA inputs. Of course, it will also capture analog composite, S-Video and component video with analog audio.

Good news... Now can Cineform NEO HD capture the HDMI video and analog audio?

I'm have yet to read about anyone ever doing this combination:

BM HDLINK (HDMI and ANALOG OUT) > BM INTENSITY PRO (HDMI + ANALOG INPUTS) > CINEFORM NEO HD.

William, The BMD Intensity Pro does not do preview acceleration, so the previews through the card are the same frame rate as the preview window in Vegas. I have a Quad-core, so it does pretty well. I believe that the Intensity only does 1080i anyway.

Stevet, It seems like that combination would work, but I don't know for certain.

Thanks John, that's what I'm thinking.

I believe your correct about 1080i.

I'll have to select the "remove 3-2 pulldown" option in the Cineform software when capturing my 1080 24P sent over BM HDLINK which outputs 1080i with pulldown.

Blackmagic released new WinXP v1.8.4 drivers today for the Intensity Pro. I just installed the drivers and can confirm that Vegas will now both read and write Intensity Pro MJPEG files!!! I've been waiting almost a year for this to happen. I am thrilled! I'll check out the rest of the Intensity/Vegas integration over the next few days. It's looking good.

(EDIT: 1920x1080 MJPEG files do not play at full frame rate in Vegas, but the fact that they play at all is a major step forward. The same files will play at full quality and frame rate in Premiere CS3, probably due to the fact that the Intensity is using its on-board hardware MJPEG decoder when being run from within Premiere.)

John, great news!

John, Have you ever tried Cineform NEO HD?
If not, are you willing to download their demo NEO HD? They give you a 15 day evaluation peroid.

I would like to know if the Intensity pro using NEO HD will record 1920x1080 24P HDMI along with the analog inputs and create a CFHD file with video/audio.
You will have to select the remove 3-2 pull down option.

hi,

I have a question.

I have the Intensity Pro card and Sony Vegas 8.0b,

How can i choose my codec ? I don't see where i can choose which codec i want to use... The defaut codec are "Uncompressed YUV", but my HDD are not good enough for this.

Where must I go to select the compression codec in "Capture video mode" ?

And like Stevet, i want to know too, if Cineform codec works with Vegas 8.0b and a Intensity (Pro) Card.

Thanks !
