Black Levels

I noticed that the black levels for Edius are set to +16 when testing footage in After Effects or stills in Photoshop. The black bars in a 4:3 export are also milky. Once colour corrected in AE then the file retains its levels but HVX footage seems to be missing some punch. Cant find any settings . . . anyone??
 
How you're testing footage? From a file export?

The OHCI settings in Hardware Settings will allow you to set the Setup Level, which affects the output level in export.
 
Hmm... Do you get a different result if you export an RGB Uncompresed AVI? Just do a short test.

Canopus HQ is a YCbCr format, so it may have something do with assumptions in RGB<->YCbCr conversion.
