I just wanted to open a discussion for and with you "engineer' types. Here's a link I ran across and wanted to get your take on it.

I am striving for broadcast quality deliverables and want to do and learn all it takes to get there. The black level setup is the "flavor of the day" question for me.
I started in the analog world of video in 1983, went on to other things and re-entered professional production work 5 years ago and independent 2 years ago.
My gear - JVC GY DV500, Lectro uhf wireless rig, Rode ntg2, boompole, Sony Vegas/DVD Architect, Great edit suite(don't need to go into specs as it is fast, big, and new) and a bunch of other goodies.
So I am in the SD world for now but by year's end I will be able to offer my clients HD as well.

Feel free to talk amongst yourselves

Ciao...Jeffro

Thank you for posting this! Excellent Demo, has certainly helped me to understand about Black Level.

Obviously this is a JVC marketing tool...
I wonder if anyone could weigh in on JVC's claim that they are the only manufacturers whose equipment outputs "standard" black levels and if so, how much of an issue is this for all you Panny/Sony, etc. owners. Is this a concern?

Thanks...Jeffro

HVX handles setup to P2 properly. It doesn't handle setup to tape properly. When shooting in tape mode, you should always always always set the HVX (or DVX) to 0%.
