Black bars around Frame/movie

Ok... so i used PP CS3 to edit a short film. Shot it letterbox on the HVX with a top and bottom black bars.

When i render it, the bars exist on the top and bottom (which is fine). But when write it to a DVD and watch it:

1) On my Widescreen TV, using my DVD player, it inserts black bars on the sides also. When i try use a Blu-ray player and play the standard def DVD... the black bars on the sides disappear

2) Or when i watch the DVD on a standard def TV the black bars on the sides disappear.

What should i do to consistently eliminate the black bars on the sides?

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Go into your DVD player menu and set it for a 16:9 display.

Just curious as to why you would shoot letterbox on the HVX? I'm not real familiar with the camera, but I know it shoots widescreen. Which when burned, your DVD player will automatically display correctly on a widescreen tv, and will letterbox on a 4:3 tv.

Maybe he ment that he shot it wide screen wich appears to have black bars in 4:3?
