Desiring a black and white picture, I used desaturate in FCPro. The results are less than desirable. During a fade in image looks to have a tourqouise hue, as in the first grab. The second is normal. Any suggestions?

Under filters. Click Quicktime. Click Color Tint. This is a black and white filter.
It'll require full render to view playback.
(this might not solve your hue problem during fades, but will make it as true black and white as possible.) Then play with 3 way color corrector to make the blacks crushed or whatever you want the end result to look like.
