Hi all
I am going to shoot a short in a few weeks.
I have some doubts that i hope dissapears with your help.
For one side the short will be in black and white.
So i would like to know if anyone has made b&w footage with the dvx. I had the 100A (pal). I would love to hear experience on that.
Any trick on how to managed with the settings, the wardrobe, the set decoration...?
I would like to make almost everything in camera. Of course i will have to desatured in post. But i was looking for filters that can achieve a better black and white output.
It will be mostly interiors, with some exteriors shots at night.
What i want is a kind of Taxi Driver but black and white look; or Down by the law with less grain.
Kafka by Soderbergh would be a good example too.
Second. I know it´s been discuse a lot around here. I had read all the messages and there´s moments that everything it´s pretty clear to me, but some other´s just make me crazy. It´s the famous squeeze versus cropping in post.
Normally my choice is normal mode to have more room to put the letterbox in post. But, since this short it is going to be shot all with tripod in statics shots. No camera movement (sorry about my stupid english) I was thinking if there´s any good thing about recording in squeeze (does it gives wider field...?)
I know normal mode could be a lot easier and less dangerous than squeeze, but if there is any real reason that squeeze can give me...
And thinkin in distribution I´ll have the problem that a lot of tv´s are 4:3 and can´t display the 16:9.
Would it be posible, or even realistic, to do a 16:9 version and then make a 4:3 letterbox version. With the same footage, of course. I ve read something about Final Cut pro, that can do that. I work with Avid. Any one knows if it possible?
Maybe if i record the final result to mini dv and then i put this in the pc again will be 4:3 with the black bars...
(i´ll put this last part in the avid box)
Thanks
