Bizzare problem

I recently got a canon hv20 a couple of days ago, and have been filming, and today decided i should capture my footage. Oh what a pain it has been.

Here's a rundown of my problem.

I plug in my camera and it is detected as it should be, however Whenever i try to capture footage, the camera gets rewound and played as usual, i can control the camera from the computer as you should be able to. However when the camera plays nothing is ever displayed in the preview box, and no video is captured. They create files, but they are 0bytes in size with no video.

Here are the solutions i have gone about to attempt to fix this problem

Different capture programs
-Vegas pro 8.0
-HDV Split
-Windows Movie Maker

Used High def and Standard Def

Tried using all three of the firewire ports on my computer

Tried various settings on the camera

Tried new drivers on firewire port

The only thing i can think of at this point, that i haven't tried is a new firewire cable, which i can't test as i don't have one with me at the moment. However, i don't think this is the problem as the camera is obviously communicating with the computer.

I am running windows Vista home premium 32 bit and here are my comp's specs

core 2 duo e6400
ATI x1950xtx
gigabyte ds3
2 gb Gskil gbpk
250 gig seagate barracuda
750 gig western digital cavalier
stor firewire pci card 3 port with TI chip

Anybody had a problem like this? I am out of ideas and could use some help as i'm frustrated and have searched everywhere for an answer with no luck.

narrowed down yet again, i went to another computer it worked fine with my firewire cable. This means that it is something with my computer hardware or drivers and such.

-cannot be camera settings (works on other computers)
-cannot be firewire cable (works on other computers)
-cannot be settings in vegas as it won't capture in any program
-cannot be camera's firewire port defective (it does transfer video)
-cannot be tape (works fine)

possibilites
-bad firewire card on my computer
-bad firewire drivers (shouldn't be problem as vista's drivers that installs automatically should work fine)
-perhaps the way the camera is connecting to computer? hv20's drivers on computer?

The only way to test this would be find another firewire device, unfortunately i have none.

any other ideas?

Have you, or can you capture video with any other digital camcorder on your computer? Also Vegas has not been Vista friendly in prior versions although I have heard that some in this forum are running ver 8 on Vista with some success.

I just ran a vegas 8 test about 45 minutes ago and everything captured over fine!?!
Maybe its because you are shooting in HDV.
