Bizarre Japanese Game Show

Tonight, while flipping through the channels, I stopped on a very strange Japanese game show.

Basically the show involves parents placing two of their children (ages 3-5) into a room and telling them to stay as long as they can, without leaving or crying.

What's odd about that? Well, the room is haunted and is suppose to scare the kids to death (or to therapy).* The producers turn off the lights, play sound fx, and even make a ventriliquist dummy come to life. I think even John Hudson would be scared.

Here's some snapshots of the victims:

The parents win a prize if their children stay 5 minutes in the room. Of course most run screaming way before that!

You got any weird game shows you've seen? Other than The Crying Game. WOW!!! Talk about frightening.

* It's not all cruel. Before they go into the room, the kids are told the room is not really haunted and it's just for fun. Hey, that makes it ok. Right?

"It's not all cruel. Before they go into the room, the kids are told the room is not really haunted and it's just for fun. Hey, that makes it ok. Right?"

No. Scaring kids for fun and money is just wrong.

BTW, I realize you were being facetious

oh my! Thats one of the strangest things ever to come out of reality TV.

I'd hate my parents if they did that to me. I can't imagine ever purposely scaring my kid to death like that.

I kept on hoping something was being lost in the translation. Not sure the show needed translation. Kids. Haunted Room. Scary Freakin Puppet! Crying. People Cheering!

Hey, is Japan in the jurisdiction of Child Protective Services?

oh man, that is so wrong!! It's children Fear Factor. I wouldn't be suprised if their kids turn agianst them when they get older.. That is really rediculious. Some get CPS for realz.

ddh - I can spot a rigged show from a mile away and these kids weren't acting. They really were scared. But , considering your location, I'd be inclined to believe you. What are you doing in Tokyo?
