biggest rookie ever "help"

Hi people, I just bought me a DVX100A and I need all the help I could get to learn how to work it and understand all the buttons on it. I have the DVX Book by Barry W. Green but sometimes I find it difficult to understand it. I am really a wedding video editor with Final Cut Pro but now I want to make a few extra bucks shooting my own weddings. I have never shot anything but home videos. My question is, are there any easier ways to learn everything I need to know about the DVX, for example DVX for dummies. I will thank you for all the advise you could give me. Thanks guys.

Well, for starters, alot of the questions about basic operation of the camera can be found in the manual. The DVX book is great, but having a knowledge of how to operate the camera is sort of mandatory to get anything from the book. Also, since this is your first post, it's good to use the search tool on this forum. Chances are likely that any questions you have have already been discussed at length in various threads. Being a new member, I strongly suggest doing a thorough search before asking questions about camera operation. So yea, read the manual to fill you in, and just generally experiment with the camera. It's not going to happen overnight, but you'll learn how to use it in time.

as a recent buyer of only a couple months ago , advice i would give is just use it a lot, practice with it everywhere you can, not just the buttons and modes but the handling of it. dont be intimidated by it, all those switches can be overwhelming, but spend a good few hours reading forum posts and you will learn a ton of stuff, find the post getting the right image and read and reread it, print it out to keep.
i am happy with some stuff i have shot recently but i know i am no where near using the potential of this camera yet.
just get out there and practice
good luck

Exactly. Read through this site and experiment with the camera. Then, come back with more specific questions and we'll be here to help you.

I agree with GLENURSE. I've had my DVX for 3 weeks now and initially it seemed very complex. I just started shooting a bunch of video with different settings and keeping track of what I did. You begin to understand how the settings affect the image and start setting up your own scene files. The DVX still blows me away. I went from an old Hi8 to a DVX100A.

i found getting the scene file settings difficult to master at first.

eventually i made a checklist and kept records of all the scene file setting that i liked.

if you want I can email you my checklist. just PM ME.

also - watch the barry green dvd a few times over.

and like everyones mentioned: if you ever have any more specific questions try using the search option on dvxuser or posting your question in the tech forum.

good luck!
