Yesterday, my company and I started at dawn and finished at 9PM on the second day of a narrative short. When it came time to import into FCPX, nothing except the first six clips would come in. I chose an import including transcode, since it was all 4K, and my machine won't play 4K smoothly. I could see the clips in the browser, but the Info panel showed the proxy but no original. I tried Clipwrap. It would not open the files. I could not copy the files in Finder. VLC would not open the files at all. Finally, I tried opening them in Quick Time, and then saving to the local disk. It worked.
I was using a rented Panasonic GX85 - I don't think the camera was the problem, because the day before's work and today's work imported with no problem. For today's work, I used another card. The one I had the problem with was a Sandisk 64GB Exreme Pro, which I will be retiring. (For all serious work, I preserve the original media as a second backup.)
